Re: to tuna or not to tuna??

I've avoided it all pregnancy but this morning I woke up dying for a tuna melt. Who wants tuna at 8am? Chat Icon But I might have to cave tonight! If not, this will definitely be one of the first things I eat after 11/18!!!

Re: to tuna or not to tuna??

I've had it once during pregnancy b/c I was really craving it. I know you can have it in moderation, but I chose to avoid it b/c I ate a lot of tuna pre-pregnancy and wanted to avoid high mercury fish as much as possible during pregnancy. It all depends on what you're comfortable with though.

Re: to tuna or not to tuna??

I had a potato salad with tuna in the 1st trimester and I had a tuna sandwich last week. If you don't do it often I don't see the harm!! Our mothers did MUCH worst things and many of us turned out ok...lol

Re: to tuna or not to tuna??

I agree with the moderation concept. My Ob supports it. I have cold cuts, greek salad and tuna----each once a week.

My ob said chunk lite tuna once in a blue moon wouldn't kill me but it was best to avoid it - maybe if you feel you have to have it can you have it maybe say once every 1-2 months

Re: to tuna or not to tuna??

I have never heard NO tuna at all ..........??? Chat Icon Do some OBs say to avoid it completely?

My OB said once a week or every 2 weeks was fine - I think you should go by what your own Dr. tells you and make your decision from there.
I eat it once a week now that I actually WANT it again ........

thanks girls...i have to say everyone's oppions differ soo much that i guess i am better off just avoiding it. i think this is the best suggestion. its just that tuna is soooooooooo much easier than cooking up a chicken breast...since i refuse it eat chick in a can...anyway i think ita better stay away from the fish Chat Icon thanks sooooooooooooo much for all your suggestions!!! Re: to tuna or not to tuna??

I remember craving tuna all the time and there is a bagel place right by my dr. that makes the best tuna melts.

I told her I was craving it - and she said to go get it and enjoy. In moderation - it's fine.

Also - the first thing I wanted after I delivered my son was a big fat tuna sandwich! I wonder why we have such strong cravings for it! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Enjoy!

My OB said tuna no more than once a week was fine. I personally limit it more than that. I've had it 2x this pg and I am actually totally craving it right now and will probably have a tuna melt for dinner tonight. Chat Icon

I've never heard of NO tuna at all.

Re: to tuna or not to tuna??

I've had tuna this pregnancy. They say light canned tuna is actually ok, its just tuna steak to stay away from. I've heard mixed things, but lately more positive, so I have not ruled it out completely. I have it about 1x month.

Re: to tuna or not to tuna??

I had tuna twice before I knew. Now I try to avoid it completely but it's so hard, I love tuna melts and I've been craving them so bad. Chicken salad has been a decent substitution.

Re: to tuna or not to tuna??

My Ob Gyn said absolutely no tuna because they are unsure of just how much mercury is in there..I am staying away. WHat does your ob say about it?
