Painting. Stay away, right?
So we're prepping baby's room for painting. I'm much better at painting then DH, but everyone is telling me to stay away. I was going to open windows, run a fan and wear a mask, but I guess I should just let it rest.
Did any of you paint?

I think its mostly oil based paint your supposed to avoid.. but best to be careful around all types.

I just helped paint our kitchen. Makes sure the room is well ventilated and you're fine. I wore a mask to be safe as well.

Re: Painting. Stay away, right?
I painted my DS's nursery when I was 9 months pregnant.
Just ventilate and don't over do it.

if you're getting a mask, just make sure you get the right one. a dust mask won't cut it (might as well not wear anything at all - they only filter out large particles, not fumes). go to home depot and get one of their heavy duty masks and then buy filters that are graded for paint fumes. someone in the department there should be able to help you. (i was a sculpture major and we had to know which masks you have to wear when. you'd be surprised at how useless most of them are when you're not using the right type).
eta - it might be kinda pricey in which case maybe you should just let your dh do it if you're worried.

Re: Painting. Stay away, right?
I purchased an enviromental paint from Benjamin Moore. A few bucks more a gallon but we only needed one so I felt it was worth it. The odor is allot lower. IF you already purchased the paint then do what you had planned.

You can also check out Benjamin Moore Aura paint. Environmentally friendly, one coat, no primer needed, low fumes, fast drying...
I am having someone paint the nursery on Tuesday and plan on staying home while it is being completed.

I second this. This paint is awesome - very low fumes and no primer!

I also used this for painting in the main part of the house also. I will only use this paint ever in my house. I could not remember the name but it is Aura

I painted my dining room and the nursery while I was pregnant. Just make sure the windows are open and it is well ventilated.

Re: Painting. Stay away, right?
i wouldnt suggest being in the room for priming though...i also painted...i did it last week, 3 rooms, and now im doing the babys nursery today...we're doing something alil different in there, and my DH has no patience for stripes or anything lol...so today i think im gonna at least do the one wall we're doing something with...and then let him do the other 3 solid walls...
he primed last nite, and the smell (as delicious as i think it is lol) was a killer...too much to be around pregnant if you ask me..
painting, just ventilate well and maybe wear a mask..
