Ist Dr. Apt

Can someone tell me what happens at the first apt. typically?

Im nervous, scared, excited, happy. My emotions are a wreck. I m just crossing my fingers!Chat Icon Chat Icon I just want a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby!

I can't help but think of all the terrible things that can go worng. Im terrified of having a m/c. Are there any statistics on the probablity? Im sure Im over thinking everything, I just wish my first trimester was over and I could see my baby bump and enjoy being pregnant!

Am I alone on this? Does anyone else have these fears?

I have been feeling the same way. I go for my first sono on the 17th and I am so scared. My mom keeps telling me I need to relax and not get anxious, and I am having a hard time listening to her!

Re: Ist Dr. Apt

They will take lots of blood! Weigh you, take your blood pressure, urine sample. If you haven't had a PAP in a while, they will most likely do that as well. Where I live, my Dr. had to do a swab test to test for Ghonorrea which is a state law.

They asked me a gizillion questions, answered any questions I had.

They may do a sono to date your pregnancy.

I always have fears, but I also had a very hard time getting pregnant and have had 3 losses along the way. A chemical last year, a m/c after my first IVF attempt and one of my twins with this pregnancy. At almost 27 weeks, I still have anxiety going to each appointment!

Re: Ist Dr. Apt

Ive already gone for my 1st apt. but still worry about my 2nd.

The last 2 days I feel great, so I relate that to something being wrongChat Icon

The begining is so hard... I will prob rent a doppler (like I did with DS) to ease my fears.

i don't know what happens - as my appointment isn't until the 18th - (i've been with an RE since day 1 though)...

the fear doesn't go away - i think. Every little pang, i'm like, OMG - are you okay? Every symptom makes me feel a TINY bit better...like, okay, do your thing heartburn!

If I rented one of those things it would probabaly be attached to me 24 hours a day just to make sure i hear the little bugger!

Im anal, and was able to control doing it only 1x/day.

For me, the piece of mind was 100% worth it!

after all we went through, we rented one and we listen to her once a week. My husband thinks anything more than that is "bothering" her. Chat Icon Especially because everytime we use it, the second I get her heartbeat (she's always in the same spot!), she moves away. She does this with sono's too. She doesn't like to be disturbed. Much like her mommy!

Re: Ist Dr. Apt

It depends on your doctor. My first appointment was basically an annual exam. The doctor also sent me for bloodwork. I had a sono at the next appointment.
