Back from my checkup!
So, the dr. says he wants to induce me around 38 weeks to avoid a c-section
i totally wanted to have the baby in December so Im happy about that, but I really wanted to experience the feeling of going into labor on my own
any thoughts??

Is there a reason he wants to induce instead of waiting for you to go on your own? I know you said to avoid c but why does he think you'll need a c?

Re: Back from my checkup!
Induction would be my last resort IMO, even after a c/s unless of course there is a good medical reason for it.

really? What would make him think you would need a C if you waited to go on your own?
Inducing MANY times leads to a Csection.

Inducing MANY times leads to a Csection. I am sure your Dr must have a good reason, but this is my thought as well.

Inducing MANY times leads to a Csection.
Especially inducing at 38 weeks because often your body is just not ready to go into labor. If your body isn't ready, the odds of a c-section go way up.
I'm curious why you'd be induced two weeks early & why he thinks you'll need a c-section? A big baby isn't always a reason to induce or have a c-section. I don't understand doctors thinking that way because unless you try laboring on your own how will you know your body isn't capable?

Re: Back from my checkup!
i will have to speak to him on saturday when i go back
my friend that is a nurse said that inducing does often lead to a c-section but more commonly if you are past the due date
i guess i'll see what he says; maybe not 2 full weeks; but more like 10 days early
i'll have to research this

I am having a csec due to many differnet issues (fibroid, large baby, etc). My dr will not schedule the csec more than one week before my due date. Many women on here said the same thing, their drs won't do anything before one week early.

Re: Back from my checkup!
I'm having twins and my dr. will not induce or schedule a c-section until 39 weeks (as long as no other issues come up between then and now).

Re: Back from my checkup!
I am surprised they want to schedule an induction at 38 weeks when they do not know if you will have progressed at all at that point.
50% of all inductions end in c-sections, and usually because the mother is being induced with no progression.
You said the doctor wants to schedule an induction in December? Do they want to avoid the holidays/vacation schedule by scheduling you?

Honestly, NO FLAMES!!! I would really question the reason for the induction or C-section. Its a little fishy that they are suggestions an induction or c-section around the holidays with no real medical reason.....
I personally wouldn't allow it....growth sonos are NOTORIOUS for being off...... And just because the baby is predicted to be 9lbs doesn't mean a vaginal birth is not possible.

Re: Back from my checkup!
I totally agree and an induction before the due date would be an even higher chance of a section anyway. And the baby being too large is not the best reason. You never know what is too large until you get there. JMO.

Re: Back from my checkup!
Emerson was measuring 9lbs7oz at my last sono which was at 38w4d. I had GD and they were monitoring her weight ever other week but regardless they would not induce until 40w (they won't let you go past your due date when you have GD). I had a C-section because with GD they are concerned with the size of the baby as well as them having broad shoulders which makes it hard to deliver vaginally. They scheduled my C-section for 39w1d. Coincidentally my water broke 6 hrs. before my surgery but I still had the C. I would be hesitant to be induced too early. The baby needs as much time as possible to ensure proper development and you do run the risk of ending up with a C-section when being induced. Let your body tell you when your baby is ready. Also, don't put too much stock in the weight estimates. They said Emerson would probably be at least 10lbs when I deliver but she ended up at 8lbs 8oz so take the measurements with a grain of salt. Lots of luck!!
