Did you mostly register for "bestsellers"?
For bedding, stroller, furniture, I'm picking what I like via design.
When it comes to bouncers, playmats, swings, etc., I was thinking maybe I should go by "mom's choice" or "bestsellers".

I registered for what I liked, but I did look at the comments on some of the best seller items.

I registered for items that had ratings in the Baby Bargains Book.

I've been using the Baby Bargain book which has been VERY helpful. I've also been speaking to other moms to see what they recommend.

I based my choices on Baby Bargains, reviews on the BRU website and information from LIF threads. I wanted products that had good safety and consumer ratings.

BRU and amazon.com has ratings so between those two sites and Baby Bargains you should be able to pick out the ones that are good.
There are items that may not make Bestsellers list because they are too new or expensive but are great so don't rely as much on such a list.
I'm registering for the Lascal Carrier (a better Baby Bjorn) and the Bugaboo Bee stroller and those are relatively new so don't even make the bestseller cut yet. :)

Not really. We did register for some things based on overwhelming recommendations, but in general we went and saw things in person & checked the quality. After we saw things we liked, we checked the recall list to see if any items were on there.

Nope. I really relied on my friends opinions (based on experience)
and the baby bargains book. I think it really helped.
