Is it me?
Ok so I know we can be OVERLY sensitive at times during pregnancy but last night DH got me so mad, I literally wanted to scream my head off.
The story: My husband and his family are not from this country..his parents still live overseas. Last night they were talking on the phone and after the conversation DH comes to me and says "we have a problem...my parents are having a hard time pronouncing the name we picked for so we're gonna have to come up with another name"..
I was waiting for the punchline..I seriously thought he was kidding b/c this was the most ridiculous thing I've EVER HEARD. I told him it wasn't happening. We have thought about this name for 6 months and both loved it. I can't pronounce half their names..so should I request they change their names. I told him that they have 3 months to practice getting it right or else they can call him "sweetie"..but the name is staying.
WAS THIS NOT CRAZY?
Sorry..had to vent. I was absolutely enraged

Re: Is it me?
I would be mad too. My father is Italian with a very heavy accent and he says my sons name and my daughter to be's name. It may sound funny when he says them but it never occurred to him to have me make a simplier name

Re: Is it me?
The funny thing is that the baby's name is the simplest most American name you can imagine. And THEY are having a hard time with it. You have got to hear some of the names from my DH's country..I can't believe they don't have a problem pronouncing those names.
Obserd.

Re: Is it me?
thats ridiculous. his parents can have a nickname. my grandparents have heavy accents and have never been able to pronounce my name correctly. They have never gotten my mom's name right either.

Yup, that would have enraged me too.
Keep the name you two agreed on and tell them to get over it.

Re: Is it me?
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. - ANYONE who's not a native speaker of ANY language will have a difficult time pronouncing a name properly -
You do the best you can. My grandfather had the thickest Italina accent and called me MarEEs my whole freakin' life - FORGET trying to say my sister's name (Alexis)
Who cares if they can pronounce it correctly ?? I'm with you I would have lost it - or just laughed in his face . -

Re: Is it me?
THAT'S what I told him. I said any foreign speaker wouldn't be able to say every name properly.
I was just so upset. I was like "Would you like me to change my name too..since they don't pronounce it correctly?" How could he not realize what an obserd comment that was?
It doesn't matter b/c the name is staying.
