So had my growth sono yeterday and........

Baby Dodge is measuring at a whopping 4.1 lbs at 28.5 weeks!!!! OMG, OMG, OMG!!! I know several people have told me that's not too bad, but it seems so high compared to what you guys are getting quotes of. I know it could be off and will change, but on lordy!!

I knew we'd have a 8lber +++ just based off all the women in my family (the smallest baby out of 15 cousins was 7.4 lbs, we're a big baby familY!!!). I'm just nervous because a bigger baby increases the chances of a c-section (which I really don't want).

I passed my 1 hour GD test but my gut is they'll probably have me do it again (grr, although I passed last time with flying colors).

Oh lordy, big baby dodge on his way.

Good thing, everything looks great and healthy and as my mom says "the bigger the baby, the better they sleep, especially through the night". Ok, one saving grace!!

Re: So had my growth sono yeterday and........

Welcome to the big baby club! I just found out at 32+ wks that my baby is weighing 5.8lbs. I had the 3hr gtt, skipped the one hr due to dad's history of adult onset diabetes. I passed the 3 hr in week 26 with a great score, but my dr wants me to redo it asap just to be sure since DD is measuring on the larger end of the scale right now.

I suspect they may have you do the 3 hr to be sure this time. Did they say anything about it?

No, but it was just the sono tech, my doc's apt is next Friday. I think I won't eat that morning just in cause they spring the test on me...

It's worth a shot but I would suspect they would have you do the 3 hr to be sure, it's more telling than the one hr. And you need to fast from the night before for the 3 hr. But sure, it's worth a shot. Chat Icon

I had my growth sono last Wednesday at 32 weeks and they estimated DS to be 5lbs 5oz with 3 inch feet!

Thats what I get for saying I wanted a chubby baby! I should have known since DH was 10lbs 3oz!

Wow! Personally, I don't know just how accurate these growth sonos are.

My sister had one at 32 weeks and they told her the baby was already over 5.5lbs, She was told the baby would be over 9lbs. She delivered at 39 weeks at only 7lbs. I've heard more often than not from friends that their growth sonos were waaaaaaaaay off. I wouldn't stress too much about it.

maybe the baby won't be that big at birth!

it does seem that these sonos are sometimes inaccurate.

Well I was told by the sono tech that the head size can throw the measurement off. So if the head is a bit on the normal side of large, the baby's weight is estimated higher b/c the head holds a large proportion of how the weight is calculated. Hope this makes sense.

interesting... I wonder if that is why at my Level II my baby was measuring in the 30th percentile. I have a little head, as does my mom. We're just a couple of pea heads.

LOL...

We have a baby big head here. Totally opposite! They said my baby's head was normal but on the larger end. Overall at 32+_ weeks DD is measuring in the 81st percentile.

Re: So had my growth sono yeterday and........

4.1 lbs at 28.5 weeks is big but big babies can be a blessing in disguise sometimes. Underweight ones are more cause for alarm. I won't worry about it. :D

aww don't worry! I had two big babies and they were both great babies. Plus, the growth sonos are frequently off, so don't get too nervous about it!

Yes we've started to talk about it. My doc says the babys weight is borderline at 36w on whether she would recommend a c/s. If he was any bigger or I had GD it would be another story. If I don't go on my own b4 40w she thinks I should have one but if I want to try on my own before then she supports that too. She wants me to decide on my own at this point but thinks its about 50/50 whether or not I can push him out based on my pelvis and stuff. If I go into labor early and have the c/s scheduled for 40w I can also tell them that's what I still want. I have no idea what I'm going to do - play it by ear I think!

Kerry, they measured Abby at close to 8 pounds the week before she was born. She turned out to be 6 pounds and 3 ounces. There is a big window there! In any case, good luck and ROCK THAT BABY OUT!!!!

I'm in the same club with you girls! I'll be 36 weeks in 2 days. They told me he was measuring 6 1/2 lbs at 34 weeks. I do have GD though. I go today to my doctor for my weekly appt so I'm hoping we discuss what is in store me for me as far as c-section etc. I am getting SO uncomfy at this point and I've been contracting ever since I went into preterm labor over a week ago and was hospitalized. My belly is extremely sore! I'm hoping to hang in a little bit longer.

I did schedule a csection but it's not only baby's size, it's my fibroid, my pelvis and a few other things though. Baby's size just adds to it.
