Does everyone have a growth sono?
Or is it something special that is done due to specific circumstances, etc.?
And when does it typically get done?
I have a thing from my doc with all the stages/appts, and the growth sono is not on there.

I don't think so.
I had one b/c my doctor was concerned about IUGR.

Basically the last "milestone" was the GD test... the rest just shows frequency of visits-- according to the appt schedule document I was given.

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
Not everyone has them.
A lot of OBs do them if you have a medical complication, GD or carrying multiples and some just do it......

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
actually-- I see it says, "close observation of fetal growth"
So, I guess the sono is dependent upon each person for my practice.

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
It is not typical in either practice I have been at. Both times I had it due to high BP. This time I am getting a repeat because the baby measured big at the first one.

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
I've had two growth sonos so far b/c I was at risk for preterm labor. If I wasn't at risk, I would have just had one at 31-32 weeks.

I just wanted to add that a lot of insurance companies don't cover sonos after the anatomy scan/level II

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
I'll be having 3 in my 3rd trimester due to my low PAPP-A results from my ultrascreen. But typically my practice doesn't send you for sonos after your Level II

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
Hmm...I'm almost 33 weeks and I haven't had one, nor been told about them. Maybe because I'm having a scheduled c-section?
I'd kinda like to know how big is!

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
It's kinda nice to know what to expect... ie, would you have to get those newborn clothes or not? :)
Besides, it's nice to see the baby again, I would ask for one if it's not scheduled.

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
I have fibroids so that's why I had mine. At 32+ weeks, baby is weighing 5.8 lbs. My dr scheduled my csec today as a result of the sonogram results.

I don't think a growth sono would tell you that. Especially since they are usually done between 32-35 weeks and usually the baby gains 1lb a week past that.
And b/c they can be -1/+1 pound off.
DS was 4lbs at 35 weeks, and was born at 39 weeks 6lbs 11oz.

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
No. When I asked at my first appointment how many sonos to expect my doc said 8w, 12w (if elect to do ultrascreen) and 20w. Beyond that she only does sonos if they are deemed necessary. After a couple of appointments measuring my belly she felt my was on the bigger side so wanted to check in on him at 32w. Because he was so large at that point, I also had one at 36w...that should be it now. But had he not been on the big side, I wouldn't have had anymore.

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
No, I didn't have one with my first 2 pregnancies but I will be with the this one since my gurls were on the big side. (8lbs 8oz and 8lbs 15 oz). I will be getting it at 38 weeks.

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
I had mine at 34 weeks with DS.
This is not a "required" one. Some OB do it, some don't.
We did it for me but it was up to me according to the OB.
I did it because the last time I had seen DS was at the level II. AND I wanted to know how "big" he was going to be. He turned out right on target at birth.

Re: Does everyone have a growth sono?
No, everyone does not have one. Usually, they only do one if they think the baby is measuring big or small
I had one at 37w, 2days because at my 35 week appointment, my belly was measuring at 40 weeks
