Just a warning...anyone registered with BRU, prepare for duplicates
My mom told me that when planning my shower, a few people she spoke w/ apparently bought the same thing. And on my registry, one item I only asked for one of (and only need ONE, it's a mobile) has next to it that TWO were bought. I thought no one was buying from the registry but now I think it's more that certain things never registered as bought.
I can only imagine what a mess this is going to be. BRU better NOT give me a hard time returning duplicate items. Their website was so screwed up the last few weeks. I will literally go ballistic in the store if they refuse to give me credit, etc....
So just a warning....

Yup, this happened to me. My shower was 10/4 and the whole week leading up to that their website was up and down. DH called and b*tched them out and they put a note in our file about the issues we were seeing on our registry. I got a handful of duplicates - 3 play gyms, about 8 of the same towel and robe set, etc. Very annoying. When I went to return the 3rd gym they wanted to give me the sale price because I didn't have the gift receipt. I told them I hated their store and argued with them until they gave me the additional $20.
Definitely keep an eye on things girls and put a note on your registry asking for a gift receipt. I was reluctant to do so but many people included it which helped a lot. I wrote something like "Please include a gift receipt in case of duplicates as exchange policy is very strict" - I thought this was tactful enough and didn't insinuate I wanted to return things...but more but the blame on their crappy policy (and called it an "exchange" policy instead of return to not imply I wanted to return things)

I did put that note on my registry...hoping most people throw in the gift receipt. I hated to put it for reasons you mentioned but knew I had to do it in case of a problem such as this. Glad it all worked out for you in the end.
Did most people give you a gift receipt?

Re: Just a warning...anyone registered with BRU, prepare for duplicates
I just had my shower last weekend and got ALOT of duplicates also. The registry shows that some items weren't bought and I did receive them On top of that, the registry was down for awhile so people just got me whatever they wanted. Basically I'm returning the majority of things that I got
I do not recommend BRU for a registry.

That sux! I already knew about the reputation of BRU but where else was there to register? I registered at BBB also and NO ONE bought there except for immediate family b/c there just aren't enough locations.
Did you get a lot of gift receipts? If not, I don't think BRU will even take them back from what everyone says on here....

Re: Just a warning...anyone registered with BRU, prepare for duplicates
I only got one duplicate, but that was from DH's grandmother, who didn't understand the registry and got very overwhelmed by BRU. The rest of the items she bought for us weren't on our registry. She asked the cashier to mark everything off, but since the other items weren't on our registry, we'd probably have a tough time bringing anything back if we tried. I like what she bought us though.
I'd say about half of the people attached gift receipts.

Re: Just a warning...anyone registered with BRU, prepare for duplicates
there were a couple items that were never purchased according to the registry, yet I received 3+ of them
best part is that if you don't get the gift receipt, you can't even return them they claimed there was 'no proof' the items were purchased there, since it was never bought from my registry according to their records

Isn't there a way to mark something as purchased on your registry? I tried this and it worked...there is a column that says purchased and if you click 1 next to it, and update, it then shows up on the purchased section. It worked for me.
They BETTER not play games with me, I will literally go ballistic b/c not only did I somehow get into someone else's registry, but within the last few weeks their website was being "updated" and changed over to a new one so apparently THEY have issues. They better not deny it. I won't be backing down either if they give me a hard time. I will make a scene if I have to.
