For mom's of second babies

Did you do anything special for your first DC when you had your second child? Some people are telling me I should have a toy for him at the hospital and tell him db brought him a special gift because now he is a big brother to try to make the transition from only child to having a sibling easier.
DS has had us to himself for almost 5 years....I am a bit nervous about the reaction of having a new baby.

I haven't delivered baby #2 yet but I plan on doing something similar for DD. DD's godparents already told me that they'll be bringing a gift for her vs. my newborn. I think it's a great idea to have DD feel special. My DD is only 2-years-old but I think it is an ageless thing.

Since Caiden was over 2.5 yrs old we took him to Build A Bear the night before my scheduled C-section and he got to build a bear for his baby brother. He even got the outfit for a baby bear. He loved it and he brought it to the hospital for the baby.

My DD was only 20 months when her sister was born. I bought her a token gift--a puzzle. EVERYONE bought her something though--she got better gifts than the baby did!

I think its a great idea, and something that I am going to do. My son is only 17 months old, but it will make me feel better. I also plan to have something at home for my son when we bring the baby home, and I know my family will also bring him things so he doesnt feel left out.


ETA: I also got one of those blanket bears (the ones with the small blanket and the bear head) for my son to bring in to give to the baby when the baby is born.

Yes, I plan on doing something special, just not sure what...My DS b-day just passed and we had gotten him a personalized big brother book with his picture in it and told him it was from his baby brother/sister and he was all excited and even brought it to show-n-tell....I have a feeling most of the visitors who bring baby a gft will also bring something for him, I always do when there is an older sibling

This is my 3rd, i am goign to get them both shirts (im the big sister, im the big brother) and probably a little somethign for my daughter b/c she is older, DS is only goign to be 18 months.

I have a baby boy Cabbage Patch for DD and her own baby sling. I know she'll be excited to get both.

I am going to do the same thing when I have this baby. We are going to buy DS either a toy & a Big Brother book & give it to him when he comes up to the hospital.

My dd will only be 17 months so i doubt shell even understand. I will get her something cute representing her new transition as a BIG sister.. but other than that just going to try and make sure she gets the same amt of attention she gets now then.

I am due this week so I bought her diamond earrings as her about to be a big sister present. She calls them big girl earrings and loves them.

I also have a gift basket for her hidden which I will give to her as a gift from her db when he comes home.

Everyday I was in the hospital I had 1 wrapped toy from the new baby to the big sister. She looked forward to coming to see him and get her gifts

We are planning to get DD a gift from the new baby. I haven't decided what yet.
