Craigslist Question - Possible Scam??
Hey all,
I posted some Halloween costumes we are trying to sell and this was the email I received from a yahoo account - does this sound shady?
Do you still have these available? If so I would like to purchase them, if you are willing to mail them to Houston. I will pay an extra $25 for shipping and your trouble. I can send money via paypal. Please let me know if you agree.
Jaclyn
Thanks ladies! Oh and if anyone is interested in the costumes - they are from this show called Aqua Teen Hunger Force (adult cartoon - DH and his friend like it) - its master shake and frylock?!?! Don't ask. Here is a link to my craigslist post if you are interested. Price is TOTALLY negotiable!
TIA!Craigslist Link - Costumes

Re: Craigslist Question - Possible Scam??
if you do sell them
make sure you get delivery confirmation from the PO
it's .65 and it will save you alot of trouble if they try to say they didn't get them
that's the only way you would have an issue with paypal
but once you get the money from paypal- it's yours- so I don't see how that could be a scam

IMO, anytime someone is willing to pay MORE than what you ask, it's a scam!!

they can use a questionable credit card on paypal which could have you shipping the item while the card that was accepted got bounced back. Just cause it's paypal, does mean you can get scammed..
or
you ship it, they claim they never got it, money gets refunded..
google search paypal, craigslist scams.
this is not ebay, why is the buyer offering more money right off the bat?
hmm...

QUOTE]
that's the easiest one to aviod
if you put in a delivery confirmation # - you win
I just had someone do that to me with ebay- the minute I put the number in - I got my money back
paypal also protects the seller - ebay or not
she is offering money for shipping-- which is like offering $5 extra - b/c by the time she buys a box, ships it and adds delivery confirmation- that's all that is going to be left

Re: Craigslist Question - Possible Scam??
I've done business on Craigslist, and this sounds completely legitimate to me.
I only say that because I listed our used mattress for $400, and there was such a fight over it that the man that ultimately offered to buy it actually paid me $600!
As others said, as long as you have the money through Paypal and do a delivery confirmation, I think you have all your bases covered! Go for it!

It's a scam - Same thing happened to me. Luckily, I found out before I sent the items - or cashed the check. The persons next email to you will probably be along the lines, I overpaid, will you please western union me the difference. There is a section on Criagslist about scams - Read it. It sounds very similar to this.

You can search through all craigslist locations. If she was looking specifically for those costumes and they're hard to find, they very easily could have come up in her search.
I've done craigslist transactions through Paypal and there weren't any issues. Perhaps I've just been lucky though

that is a scam
but this person wants to use paypal
if they really want the item- they don't have time to send a check - b/c the 31st is friday
so if they changed the story - I would think it's a scam
