I've been told I can have a piece of toast if I want (my appointment is at 12:30)...

I have mine tomorrow-- and my instructions said to eat normally.
My appt is at 9 AM, so I probably will wait to eat breakfast after- but I'll have a cup of tea or something before I leave.

I was told not to, but I did anyway (it was an 830AM apt so I ate the last thing at around 8PM the night before). I didn't want to chance anything.

I think it depends on your doctor and where you take the test. I took mine at Quest. Even though the doctor said I could eat, I called Quest to make sure and I was told to not eat anything after midnight. Water was fine to drink though. A woman who had breakfast that morning came in to take the test and she wasn't allowed to take it.

i wasn't given instructions from my dr  but my appointment was for 7am at Quest so i didn't eat anything from about 8 or 9 pm the night before just because it would have been out of the norm for me to do so. I passed.

I was told nothing to eat from midnight before the test. My test was at 8:30 AM. I passed. I also ate a boston cream donut before bed at 10 pm.

I didn't fast. I did mine in the morning, before the test.... I ate cereal and toast.
My doctor said, I would only have to fast if I failed the 1 hr and have to take the 3 hr.
I, thank god, passed the 1 hr.

I did fast for the one hour. I failed. I think fasting might not be a good idea as it might have made me fail.

As someone who failed the 1 hour test and didn't fast, I would recommend fasting if you can.
The glucola drink they have you take is gonna pump alot of sugar into your blood stream. Honestly, not everyone is gonna have enough insulin in their body to counter that much glucose. Anything you can do to prevent overinflating your blood sugar level is going to help - including fasting.
It's no fun being diagonosed with GD and having to self-monitor by pricking your finger tips with a needle 4x a day... :P

Actually fasting can have the opposite effect. Fasting for a long period of time can cause your body to release and use glucose stores that are stored in your body and cause elevated glucose levels inteh blood stream.......
