Can we discuss peanut butter?

Are you guys staying away from it ?

I feel like I heard it can lead to allergies for the baby.

Can you guys weigh in please?

I haven't been staying away from it purposely, I just haven't wanted it (unless it's in the form of choc/peanut butter ice cream! ) Although one of my mommy classes they held at my OBs office, they did tell us it's advised to stay away from peanut products starting after your 6 month and until you are done breast feeding. I really don't see any problem with it, but since my husband was there and heard this, he's one of those people that when you say don't do something, he doesn't do it. Therefore, he will make sure that I don't!

I've been eating it as much as I want. I would much rather the baby be exposed to it in utero first.

I actually think that staying away from stuff like this during pregnancy may be escalating the amount of allergies that our kids have today. JMO.

Nope. DH is allergic to peanuts so when I was pregnant with DD I asked my OB about them & she said not to worry at all.

i havent even taken that into consideration. my dr made no mention of staying away from peanut butter.

You can have it while you're pregnant, it's fine....but it's your child that you're not supposed to feed it to once he's born I think until they're around 2. Some moms do, some don't. But I think 2 years old is the general guideline.

I love peanut butter..it was the only thing I could keep down - so I eat it often.

I told my doc and he said to "enjoy"

I eat peanut butter all the time. I was told to avoid it while BFing, but it's fine during pregnancy, especially if there's no family history of peanut allergies.

Love PB It's the only thing I crave! Yummy! I could eat a whole jar of it...

I had GD with last pregnancy and my dietician told me to have b/c its a great source of protein, so eat again with this pregnancy. I just get the low sodium brand.

I ate it while PG both this time, and last time. I'm pretty paranoid about a lot of food no-no's too (I am not touching caffeine, artificial sweeteners, cold cuts, etc) !!! But the OB never mentioned this one to me, and there is no history of food allergy in our families.

I DID avoid peanut butter for the 6 months that I BF... that just seemed like too much direct exposure for the baby, since we're told not to introduce it till age 2. I probably forgot and ate some once or twice though.

I haven't been staying away from it. Since our choices for lunch are kinda limited as it is, I eat my PB&J sandwiches once or twice a week!

I ate PB practically my entire pregnancy. I had terrible morning sickness and PB was one of the few things I could tolerate. My doctor said PB was fine.

I have not touched it and I do love it. I have read many articles about PB during pg, if there is any family history of asthma or nut allergies/allergies. Dh has asthma and allergies, so I wanted to err on the side of caution in case there is any way I can prevent asthma in my DD. If I was BFeeding, I also would not touch peanuts due to this same reason. If you google it, you will find many articles that support limiting peanuts during BF or 3rd trimester of pg. I personally agree with this, but many don't. Peanut proteins do enter breast milk (and can cross the placenta in 3rd trimester was well I heard) and sometimes children who may have a susceptibility cannot handle the proteins that young. I might also err on the side of caution and not give my DD peanut butter until about 2 years old. My DHs asthma is very scary, and since peanuts are directly linked to asthma in babies, I could not eat it with that thought in mind. JMO

I try not to eat too much of it, though I crave it a lot and it's a great source of protein. (Something my DR said to eat more of cuz I was getting dizzy spells!) Here's what my DR told me... He said there's no actual research study (they've done articles on things, but never an actual research study meaning there were different groups, monitored closely, etc.) so they don't actually know. So he told me that I shouldn't be paranoid about avoiding it, but that I should try not to eat it 5 times a week either.

My son has a very severe allergy to peanuts and I asked his allergist this question. He said consuming it during pregnancy is fine. He would not recommend it if i were to breastfeed because it can be passed in the milk.

I eat it a couple of times a week. I will probably try to avoid it during BFing.

wow!! i never heard of that! and it was never on the "do not eat" list.
i havea pb&j for breaskfast sometimes but lately, i've been eating cereal with high protein or oatmeal.

i'll go ahead and limit my intake but certainly steer clear of it while breastfeeding!

I wasn't told to avoid PB by my OB when I was preggo. My DD's pediatrician did tell me to avoid PB and peanut products since she is getting my breast milk since it may be a link to a peanut allergy.

I have been eating it. I used to be allergic to it and I no longer am. I heard that it is good to eat it now.
