Re: how far along were you?

I never saw it. My Dr, wouldn't do an ultrasound until after 8 weeks because there is no gaurantee that you will see anything. I was told a few days can make a huge difference in development and going in too early and seeing nothing would cause undue stress.

Re: how far along were you?

I go on Wed. and my Dr said I SHOULD see a fetal pole.

With my first DC, my first apt was 8weeks 1 day, and a saw a little bean with a heart beat.

TBH- I never heard the term fetal pole until last week.

you have an FM. I didn't see the screen - the doc didn't show me. He couldn't find one (the fetal pole) and asked if i had cramping & bleeding.

still waiting on blood results. Chat Icon

Re: how far along were you?

I'm not sure what a fetal pole is, but with DS my Dr did and internal at just shy of 7 wks, but said he normally doesn't b/c you don;t see much, but since DH was there he would....all I saw was what looked like a grain of rice he had me go back at just over 8 wks and we saw the heart beat.

This is what I found online "The fetal pole is a thickening on the margin of the yolk sac of a fetus during pregnancy. It is usually identified at 6.5 weeks with abdominal ultrasound imaging, and 6 weeks with vaginal ultrasound imaging. However it is quite normal for the fetal pole to not be visible until about 8 weeks"

Hope this helps Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: how far along were you?

Try not to worry too much. This is why A LOT of practitioners don't do ultra sounds before 8 weeks because it is hit or miss with what you can/can't see.

I would try and stay positive and remain as relaxed and calm as you can to not stress your LO. THe fact that you aren't cramping and bleeding is a GREAT sign.

Seriously we get a post like this at least once every 10 days of someone that went in for a sono before 8 weeks and they didn't see a sac or maybe a pole or HB and 99% of the times after a weeks or so they come back with great news that everythign is there!

Re: how far along were you?

i got my numbers back....

HCG: 19,844 (was: 4,581)
Progesterone: 23.8 (was: 20)

The nurse sounded 'concerned' to be honest and she said they want us to go back on Wednesday between 6:00 am and 7:30 am for another ultrasound and more bloodwork.

If there is no heartbeat by then and they still do not see anything, then we have a major problem.
