Its hard to say, but I followed McCain much better. I think its because Obama pauses too much.

McCain definitely wins...for grasping at any piece of spin possible to try to salvage his campaign.
Two words: Bill Ayers. I can't believe he was actually desperate enough to go THERE.

I thought that this was the best of the three debates - but I still was left  and  at some of the questions that were NEVER asked.
3 presidential debates and 1 VP debate - and NOT A SINGLE QUESTION about immigration or illegal immigration. Not like that issue has any effect on healthcare, jobs, economy. 
But enough of my vent - I thought McCain was really good in the beginning - the "I'm not George Bush" line was very strong. Then there was that question about negative campaigning and McCain's response was bizarre in my opinion - he went on and on about criticisms that his campaign has received - and these are criticisms that didnt come from Obama's camp. I thought that subject went on for FAR too long. . . but it then transitioned to William Ayers - which only scores well with McCain's base - this turns the independents off - and yet there they were, talking about him again.
When the debate switched to issues like education, healthcare and roe v wade I thought Obama's measured, more academic approach was stronger. I thought McCain's brushing off the "woman's health is at risk" reason for Obama's vetoing the partial birth abortion ban as "you pro abortionists stretch these kind of things" was ridiculous and I thought he came off poorly.
So - I think McCain did his best work - but Obama did fine.
And both of them are not served well by the split screens. McCain - you looked like you were going to explode with rage against Obama. You looked like a really angry man. And Obama - your shaking your head and chuckling at McCain is really annoying.
