Anyone "green" their cleaning?

I am reading a book on it now.

I was wondering where the best (most cost effective) place to shop would be.

On a related note, I saw green cleaning products at Costco for the first time. It was Kirkland brand but it was packaged alot like Seventh Generation. I saw laundry and dish detergent.

So far, I've found that smaller health food grocers have the best prices. They're still more expensive than the synthetic and chemical agents. But I've been going to the local mom & pops for this, not the chain stores. Maybe try online too...I haven't done that yet, but it's worth a shot.

I just started using "Bon Ami" to scour the bathroom. It's in the regular cleaning section of any grocery store. It's in a round, gold canister with red on it. I saw it for years but never paid any attention to it because the package was a little dated, and I had no idea it was free of harsh cleaners, perfumes or dyes.

It was .79 cents Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon and I am using it in lieu of Comet.

Re: Anyone "green" their cleaning?

I use either Method or Seventh Generation...I also use BonAmi for scrubbing the shower.

I've used absolutely no chemical cleaners in the house for over two years now.

Re: Anyone "green" their cleaning?

I use Clorox Green Works for the Toilet bowl. Otherwise, I've made my own concoction for the other house cleaning I do with baking soda, vinegar, Dr. Bonner's soap and water. I'm trying to go more green in my cleaning, but I still have a few things to use up.

We have been using green products for years. I am allergic to the chemical agents used in most cleaners.

Thanks everyone -

I am reading that book "green this" and I really wasn't aware that there are so many chemicals all around my home (my DH loves chemicals - he kind of rolls his eyes when Green conversations come up) Chat Icon

Re: Anyone "green" their cleaning?

I use mostly method products, and a few seventh generation. We recently bought some clorox green works suff. We get it all at Target.

I also use reusable cloths in the kitchen instead of paper towels. I am going to be buying cloth napkins instead of using the paper kind.

Re: Anyone "green" their cleaning?

We use Seventh Generation. I have seen it on sale only once, I think at Right Aid.

We also clean the hardwood and tile floors with the Shark steam cleaner. It works great! Some like the Bissel too.

I use the Method hand soap and LOVE it! Once our dish soap runs out I'm going to try the Method brand.

Re: Anyone "green" their cleaning?

We use vinegar and water on just about everything. We have a bottle of cleaner by 7th generation that we use sometimes - but generally we just use vinegar and water.

i like feeling that all the chemicals in the products i buy are literally burning and killing any germs and bacteria..
