Alittle concerned....

After reading your replies to my "when did you see HB" post, im alittle concerned.

I was last at dr at what was probably 6w1d. We had just seen yolk sac and fetal pole but there wasnt a HB. Dr didnt seem at all to be concerned. And neither was i.

yet now reading some of your replies, i am. So many of you saw it at about the point i was at on monday at my appt.

What gives?

Re: Alittle concerned....

at 6w2d, the tech said that the heartbeat was 108, but that was ok, because it had JUST started beating the day before or so.

I am sure everything is ok!

This was 6w2d. We didn't see much, other than a very tiny flicker.

It can be off anywhere from a few days to a week depending on when you ovulated and when you implanted. A lot of Practtioners won't even do a sono until 8 weeks because there is a chance you won't see anythign significant sooner and would cause unecessary alarm.

Try not to worry, you saw the yolk sac and fetal pole which is great. I'm sure at your next visit you will see the HB.

Just remember every woman and pregnancy is different so you can't compare yourself to others. KWIM?

I agree with the above. We didn't see the hearbeat until 6w4d (I saw an RE,so I had early sono's). Just a few days can make a huge difference. For example, my first sono was 5w2d to check for the sac/fetal pole and yolk sac. They only say the sac. 2 days later I went back and not only was there one sac with a fetal pole and yolk sac, there were two! So just a few days can make a big difference.

I would not worry, 6 weeks is still considered a bit early.

When I was pregnant with my first I saw the doctor at exactly 6 weeks 1 day and we didn't see a heartbeat. I had to go back the following week at 7 weeks 1 day and we finally saw a heartbeat.

Not neccessarily. If you Oed or implanted later than you thought a day can make a HUGE difference.

In addition, when you can see the HB can rely on both the Sono Machine and the ability of the technician. I only know this b/c with G I did not see anything in the Drs office but when I went to a specialist with a more sophisticated machine and a more experienced tech, we got a HB. It was the same day, so I am pretty sure that it was the machine and/or tech, not the development.

Re: Alittle concerned....

My OB doesn't do a sono until 8 weeks, probably for this reason. I wouldn't worry so much. It was probably just too early. I saw a HB at 8 weeks and that is the first time I had a sono.

Re: Alittle concerned....

I had my first appointment at 5w3d and the tech told me that the heartbeat would be visitible in a week or so.

My next appointment wasn't until 8 weeks and that was when we first saw the heartbeat.

I wouldn't be concerned. If you don't see a heartbeat at your next appointment, then I would be concerned.

Re: Alittle concerned....

Sorry I was lurking- when I was pg, my OB wouldn't even schedule my 1st appointment until I was 8 weeks for exactly this reason. There's a *very* good chance that you won't see a heartbeat before 8weeks and they wanted to avoid any undue stress. Please try not to worry!Chat Icon

Re: Alittle concerned....

i didnt see the Hb until 8 weeks... they confirmed the pregnancy at 6 and we went two weeks later... then at 12-13, again at 22..

dont stress.. just ask when you can hear it from the doppler they use, or when you will get another sono...

7-8 weeks is the normal time to see HB. Don't worry until your OB tells you to.

Re: Alittle concerned....

my OB didn't see my until I was 8 weeks. At that point he did a sono and an exam. I knew by that point the HB would have started.
