Placenta Previa

A couple of weeks ago I was in the hospital for bleeding and contractions, had a couple of sonograms but no one could figure out why I had bled. Very scary but eventually I was allowed to go home on bedrest.

This week I had a follow up sonogram to make sure that everything was fine and found out that I have Placenta Previa.

Does anyone have this or experienced this? The doctor is now telling me that I have to be monitored because if this condition does not improve by my due date (December) I will be forced to have a c-section. I have also been told that I am now at a higher risk for bleeding again which can lead to early labor.

The hospital trip was upsetting enough now to be told this makes be totally nervous that my child is at risk. Has anyone gone through this and what was your experience. The more I read about it the more upset I get.

TIA.

Re: Placenta Previa

I too have Placenta Previa. I have been on bedrest since my 28th week and my baby will be arriving in 15 days which will the end of my 37th week.

You do need to be careful. Follow the doctors orders. Bed rest is really difficult, but it will all be worth it in the end!

There is also a really good chance that your placenta will move.

Did they tell you if it was a complete, partial, or minor previa?

Hang in there. Everything will be fine!

Feel free to FM me with any questions!

Re: Placenta Previa

I had a complete previa with DS, who was born completely healthy and fine via a normal and uncomplicated c-sectionChat Icon

He was early, as there is a direct correlation between early PG bleeding and pre-term labor, but he was born at 36.5 weeks and did not need to go tot he NICU. Please feel free to FM me if you ever need to chat.

Definitly follow the Dr's orders - bed rest, light physical movement and <my least favourite> pelvic rest.

Thank You. I have minor previa, I'm hoping that it will move before my due date but I'm already 30 weeks so don't know if that is enough time for the placenta to move far enough away that I could do vaginal delivery.

I'm off bedrest now but have been told to take it easy. I just can't help worrying about doing too much and causing more bleeding, trying to be optimistic. Just want the baby to be happy and healthy.

I had it, but it moved. They found it at 16 weeks and gave me no restrictions, and at 20 weeks it was still there and I was put on pelvic rest. They were calling it a complete previa at that point. At 25 1/2 weeks, it moved and was just a low lying placenta and I was taken off pelvic rest. At 29 1/2 weeks, it moved completely and is now normal. Try to stay off your feet and rest as much as possible. They are monitoring it, which is key. Chat Icon Chat Icon
