Why does "being induced" sound so scary?

Hi ladies. There is a chance I might be induced next week. Why does this sound so scary to me?

I know everyone is different. I've had an AWESOME pregnancy the entire time. I'm 38 wks and my amniotic fluid is lower than last week (told to rest & drink fluids). When they check it next week they will see if they are going to induce or not.

This might sound dumb, but does this mean higher chance of c-section? More pain? YIKES!

Re: Why does "being induced" sound so scary?

I was just induced on Sunday night. I was very nervous - so I think you are being totally normal.

People have different experiences with inductions -- some great, some not so great.

Having said that, I had a great experience with mine. I think it is largely because I was already 50% effaced and a 1cm dilated when I got the cervadil. The doctor said I progressed quickly because I already had a head start.

If your body doesn't respond well to the cervadil (and/or pitocin), there is a higher chance of a c-section because the labor isn't progressing.

Good luck next week and I hope this helped!

Re: Why does "being induced" sound so scary?

As much as it was scary, I had a great induction experience. I was also induced due to low fluid.

I think the difference may be that the contractions come on stronger & faster. I really just went in telling myself that when I feel I need the epidural I wasn't going to try to play martyr and wait. As soon as I felt like it was getting out of control, I asked for the epidural and then they were able to up my pitocin & I progressed from there. I think I was only 3 cm when I got the epidural but I didn't care about the #. I was induced at around 4PM, epidural at 9PM and then I gave birth at 3AM.

The recovery was not so much fun but I managed. I think it had to do with the speed of things and I really wasn't ready to deliver at 37 weeks.

You will do fine!!Chat Icon Keep us posted!!!

If I drink any more liquid to try to increase my fluid I think I might just float away...not to mention I feel the need to sit on the toilet to just keep peeing!!! (TMI Chat Icon )

Thanks for another positive experience!

Re: Why does "being induced" sound so scary?

i was induced three weeks early and after 20 hours of labor I didn't make any progression...Dr's wanted me to have a second day of induction, but I was absolutely exhausted from laboring and opted for a C-section.
Just so you know...recovery is not as bad as everyone makes it

Re: Why does "being induced" sound so scary?

I had my baby 9 days after my due date and I was supposed to be induced on day 8 but then I went naturally

Induction DOES INCREASE the possibility of C-section

I would advise staying away from it unless totally necessary

BTW--I was 9 days late and my baby was 6 lbs 13 oz

Re: Why does "being induced" sound so scary?

are you dialated or effaced at all?? if you are it helps it out a lot. i was induced at 39 weeks and had an amazing quick birth experience but i do believe it was b/c i was dialated and effaced.

good luck!!

I know I'm not dialated. Not sure about effaced. They said she is "right there".

Re: Why does "being induced" sound so scary?

Drink a TON of water. My fluid levels kept fluctuating (I was also 12 days late when I had DS) -- but after I drank a ton of water my levels really did increase.

I was induced - and had a csection - but that's bc my son was 10lbs! Chat Icon It sounds scarier then it is! Chat Icon

Re: Why does "being induced" sound so scary?

I was induced because I was already a week late. I wasn't dialted or effaced at all when I went into the hospital. I did the Cervadil overnight and then a days worth of Pitocin only to be told at 9:30pm that I was still only 1cm dilated and not effaced. They gave me 3 options. 1-go home and wait a week. Maybe I'd go into labor on my own but if not then try induction in a week. 2-do another night of the cervadil and then Pitocin the next day (AKA Serial Induction). 3- C-section that was not medically necessary but was given as a choice b/c I was already late.

DH and I decided that we would try to serial induction and it was THE BEST decision we could've made. We didn't want a C-section just b/c we were being impatient and I couldn't imagine leaving the hospital without my baby in my arms. Our birthing experience was the way we both pictured it and it was the truely the most amazing experience of my life.

Overall, I had a wonderful induction experience despite needing a serial induction. I would do it all over again the same way if I needed to. I was told that an induction increases the chances of C-section but that is a risk you have to take if you need/choose to be induced.

FM me if you have any questions.
