CVS Test
I went for what I thought was going to be the AFP test yesterday, which was the one I had done for my DD. For some reason I kept referring to it as the CVS test. WRONGO! Well..there I was on the table, having a sonogram and I'm saying to myself hmm..I remember having my blood drawn before? Still nothing clicked. So there I lay and the doctor comes in and explains the procedure. I swear my face must have looked like and I nearly passed out. I had NO idea it was like having an amnio done. At first I was skeptical, but then decided, well I'm here, let me do it.
Let me tell you...he couldn't have desribed what I was going to feel any better. The minute..and I mean THE MINUTE that needle hit my uterus I saw stars. I sat there watching the needle go into my placenta and I had to turn away. My DH said he saw my uterus contracting on the screen (he's into stuff like that). That had to be the longest 30 seconds of my life..and it didn't help that the doctor was a slow counter.
Once it was done and over, I still had very bad cramping, and I actually got a little woozy/dizzy outside of the hospital. After a few hours it subsided..but WOW - what a day it was.
A week from now I"ll know if the baby is ok..so I'm

Re: CVS Test
WOW, those are 2 very different tests, the AFP and CVS. Not that I need to know the reason, but was there a reason to do the CVS? I don't know how a doctor could have scheduled you for that and not describe what it was before hand.

I agree. Also, aren't they done at completely different times? I thought the CVS was performed around 10 weeks and the AFP around 16 weeks. I would think you'd need to sign a consent form for the CVS test saying that the doctor explained everything to you and that you agree to have it performed.
Hope everything is ok.

Re: CVS Test
Wow I would be upset if I thought I was going for the AFP and it wound up being a CVS...that is definitely a test I would need to prepare myself for. I would also hope that doctor would have explained to me why he wanted me to have a CVS, considering it's not something everyone does.

Re: CVS Test
I don't mind..I'm 36. It was my fault..since I went to a different doctor for this pregnancy and told them I had a CVS test done before, they just referred me to this doctor to have it done. The doctor explained the procedure to me before it was done and told me I didn't have to have it done, but I figured it would be best. At that point, I had to sign a consent.

Thank you for scaring the heck out of me and anyone else considering CVS. I hope someone can post an experience not as scary as this one.

Wow that was a bit harsh don't you think..... I think the OP posted about her experience because she was upset and not expecting it..... I don't think she meant to scare anyone, from my understanding it isn't a comfortable procedure to go through......

ITA. That comment was really unnecessary. I'd personally want to know the good and the bad experiences so I could be prepared.

Wow that's harsh. The point of her post was that she went in for what she thought was a different exam (a simple blood test) and was caught off guard by something she wasn't expecting. She did not mean to scare anyone!

What was so scary about it? The fact that a needle was inserted into the uterus? I hate to break it to you, but if you get an amnio or CVS it's all the same shiit... they are inserting a big freakin needle in there! No way to get around it. I had the amnio and it hurt like a biitch. No sugar coating from me... If the needle is what scares you maybe you should rethink having either test.

I'm sorry, that wasn't the reason why I posted my story. I don't know if I'm the first person to do this, and if I am I apologize, but it wasn't my intention to scare anyone.

Re: CVS Test
Thanks Ladies - I appreciate you sticking up for me. I feel bad that I may have scared people, but I know that wasn't the intent.
