Oy... now I am freaking out. UPDATE
I just got an email from my friend, who I saw on Monday night at a restaurant, and whose family was at my apartment last Saturday for a few hours (a week and a half ago).
Her daughter has coxsackie. I have NO clue what it is-- but apparently, it is harmful to be around if you are pregnant. My friend does not have it, but she could be a carrier.
I was supposed to see her again on Friday, but is letting me know it's up to me-- her daughter's pediatrician said it should be fine... but I am freaking out now that her daughter was here, on my couch, eating at my table, etc. I have no clue what this sickness is!!!!
UPDATE... The doc said not to worry-- so, I guess I won't. I am not seeing her on Friday-- no need to chance it.

1st, I would google it.
2nd, call your doc and let them know the situation. They'll direct you on whats the next step

Re: Oy... now I am freaking out.
I am waiting to hear back from my friend-- she just let me know nonchalantly-- we were supposed to get together with someone else who is prego, and she only mentioned it pertaining to the plans we have on Friday-- but, I have seen her twice in the last week and a half.
The first thing I found online said it shouldn't pose a risk, but it depends what category of coxsackie.

Re: Oy... now I am freaking out.
I *believe* that coxsackie is common amoung toddlers and older people. I personally don't think you have anything to worry about but I would call your dr. just to be on the safe side.
My son and I had a playdate with another LIF baby on Friday. They found out she had coxsackie on Monday. I was a wreck - I didn't want him to get sick bc I've heard it's just horrible. Thankfully (fingers crossed) he hasn't gotten it yet!
I'm sure you're fine - it's scary though! As for the sore throat you - I think that's just the change of seasons! Mine is killing me too!

Re: Oy... now I am freaking out.
I am waiting for the office to open.... I can wait the 10 mins, although I don't want to, as opposed to pushing the "if this is an emergency" button.

Re: Oy... now I am freaking out.
My dr told me we can take antibiotics if it is necessary
However, I have been taking Halls and Tylenol and I am slowly getting better

Re: Oy... now I am freaking out.
Generally speaking you are OK...
The type that your friends child has is Type A and more than likely cause by I think it's subtype A16. (Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease)
Children are at the greatest risk of it b/c they tend to put things in their mouth which is how the disease is transmitted. Or it can be treated fecal-orally but those instances are relatively rare...(you werent changing diapers were you?)
Additionally you probably had it as a kid which means you are more than likely immune to that strain and cant catch it.
Of course contact your doctor and see what he has to say but Im going to say that you are OK.

Re: Oy... now I am freaking out.
u are in your second trimester right?
It is only a concern if you are in your first.
I was exposed to this as well and that is what my dr said!
Def. Call your dr though to be sure!

Re: Oy... now I am freaking out.
Don't panic. It is only bad if you are in your late 3rd tri, or if you get a fever from it.
DS had a very severe case of coxsackie when I was only 5 - 6 weeks and I FREAKED. Both the Ped and the OB concurred that I was not in harm's way unless I was within 3 weeks of delivering.

Re: Oy... now I am freaking out.
My son had it twice while I was pregnant. I was told that there is only a concern if you are close to delivery, and even then, its small, because adults dont normally get it.

Re: Oy... now I am freaking out.
I just heard from my friend-- she said, that it's hard to get it-- it's gotta be if she sneezed in my food or something... and that her daughter didn't have it when she was here. So, I do feel better...
I called my doc's office and gave them all the info, so now I just need the nurse to call me back.
I think I wouldn't be AS nervous if I also coincidentally hadn't been feeling well, but I will see what the nurse says and go from there.
I FINALLY slept last night after my Level II yesterday, and this is what I get to wake up to!!

I would not go out with her again on Friday, just to be safe. JMO
Sounds like you should be ok either way though.
