twins....
so i had a blood test and my doctor called and said she wants to redo it because my levels were high..when i asked what that meant( iw as overwhelmed) she said it meant I was having multiples and she wanted to re test to see if the levels remain elevated. If they do I am having twins.....my question is....what else would elevate the levels??? i feel like she was so vague wth me...i mean its pretty big deal to tell someone they even "may" be having twins..now i have to wait and wonder until the new test....god help me....its actually exciting....would be overwhelming but a blessing

Re: twins....
what levels are you talking about? beta levels? the only way to tell if you are having multiples is with a sono.

Re: twins....
I think my friend had something similar happen and it turned out she was just further along then they initially thought.

actually you can tell by beta levels - they are higher than if there was only one.
If you feel that the doctor was vague, call the office back, tell them that you were overwhelmed by hearing that and you missed everything else the doctor said

Some people with twins (or more) might have higher beta levels. Some do not.
Some people might have higher beta levels and have one baby. Beta levels cannot tell if there is more than one baby in there, the only way to tell is to see how many sacs there are with a sonogram.
My first beta was 150, thats not very high.

That is NOT always true. The beta levels can give you a hint there **might** be more than one, but it is DEFINITELY not conclusive.

Re: twins....
A high beta could mean multiples or you are further along than you think. No worries!!! When is the next beta?

Re: twins....
My betas were increasing a lot in the beginning, and after posting on here, I looked it up and they were in the range for multiples-- I was being monitored like twice a week... only one in there.

Actually if they continue to double/triple/quadruple quickly over 48 hours then it could indicate twins - has nothing to do with how high one beta is.
This pregnancy my first and only beta was through the roof! I thought for sure twins - but only one. With my DDs they actually took my blood again b/c the number was so low. Then it tripled - so that indicated it "could" be twins. Like someone mentioned, the only way to know for sure is with a sono.

This is what I meant - sorry if I confused anyone. I am sick as a dog over here - and I guess I didn't type it the way it should have been worded

That's ok, I'm sick as a dog too and after I posted it I was questioning myself for awhile!
