1st- Dr visit (kinda long)

When i left dr office, i was elated. He said everything looked great. Gest sac was implanted in uterus, blah blah, see you in 2 wks.

Well at this point im still thinking im at 6 wks so i call my sis to tell her the news (she was in OBGYN) and she asks "did he see anything IN the sac?" I reply, "no he didnt say anything. what should he have seen?" She says, "a fetal pole or yolk sac."

So at this point im a freaking LUNATIC!! I put a call in to my dr who calls me back and says that NO im not at 6 wks bc although i had AF 6 wks ago, bc i Oed on cd20-21, im closer to 5w1d and at that point, all he would see is the gest sac. He said, if you wanna come back next Mon and see me again to make you feel better, then come. But he said hes "good" w/ seeing me in 2 wks.

The point of this post is..... I never even KNEW about a yolk sac or fetal pole. Im SOOOO mad my sister put these things in my head. I didnt sleep AT ALL last night bc now i have this new ncredible fear that when i go back, he STILL wont see it.

OMG and i thought TTC was bad. This is TORTURE!!!!!!!!!Chat Icon

I agree with whatever your dr said, based on when you O. I understand what your sister said put something in your head, but I think she asked a valid question. However, your dr answered that question. The truth is it's a huge waiting game when we are pg. There is always some result or some hurdle we all want to pass. It can be brutal. I am at 27 weeks and it's been torture to get here without a new worry often.

Also, keep in mind, just coming on this board we all learn things that sometimes put things in our heads but that's what our drs are there for, to answer the questions we come up with (however we came up with them). Bottom line, based on when you O, your dr's answers are correct. Many drs won't even do an ultrasound (mine wouldn't) until 7 weeks b/c most times, not much can be seen until then and they feel it just creates added worry "waiting" to see something.

So I think you are fine, like I said, the whole process is a huge waiting game unfortunately. Time will tell all, but I am sure you are fine.

Re: 1st- Dr visit (kinda long)

When I had my first sono, I was like 5weeks3days-- everything is happening rather quickly at that point, and I think all I had was a gest sack and maybe the start of the fetal pole??? I don't know-- it wasn't all there... but, then I had another sono like a week or so later, and everything was there including the heart beat.

In the beginning, and actually still, the time b/t appointments is very hard. I have my Level II in 2 hours and I have barely slept at all this past week and a half. I think I might be more looking forward to getting a good nights rest tonight, than I am to seeing the baby again (well, not true, but you get my point).

Just try to chill, and if your doc will see you again next week-- go. It's better to see it for yourself.

I think your sister probably could have avoided freaking you out. Clearly if you had an MD appt and your doctor said everything looked great, then you're on target.

Your dr is right based on the day you O so try to keep that in mind. Seeing the HB is a huge hurdle that most of us worried about at one point in our pgs. Go with what your dr said b/c he would know best, but I would like to suggest to not be mad at your sister b/c it's a natural thing when we chat with others (sisters, each other on the boards, etc) that someone will say something that will make you think of something you never thought of (without intending to put a scare into you). That's going to happen quite often throughout the pg, I will take a bet on it. ESP coming on pg boards, you will read all kinds of things that may make you worry when there may be no need in your case. KWIM?Chat Icon

I am sure you have nothing to worry about, try to just trust your dr's words now (not easy, I KNOW). Chat Icon

Don't worry, you will be fine...5 weeks is early...

I was 5 weeks 2 days when we saw the yolk sac and the fetal pole and then 6weeks when we heard and saw the heartbeat...you ovulated late so in a week or 2 you will see your little bean!! GL!

If it will make you feel better, why not just go back? I would if I were you no doubt. I was BEGGING my dr to do one earlier than 7 weeks on me but he wouldn't budge.

The way I saw it was either way, I was worried. Whether going and seeing nothing I would be worried. And not going, still worrying about seeing nothing...so I would have gone if I had the chance. I say go, you have a shot at it being there, but still could be a few days early and it not be seen yet. You have to decide which will be easiest for you to handle, the not knowing or the knowing.

I don't think you ever stop worrying. I am 15wks today and still worried all the time. Not nearly as much as in the beginning, but still worried. It's totally normal. If your dr told you that everything looks good, then I wouldn't worry. Wait the 2 wks and I am sure when you do go back you will see even more than just the fetal pole. You will see a little bean in there!

It is completely natural, especially when you have a "milestone" that you want to achieve. Chat Icon

Re: 1st- Dr visit (kinda long)

My doctor's office doesn't do a sono until at least 8 weeks. When I had my first sono, I was 8 weeks based on my LMP, but I was pretty sure I didn't ovulate until CD 19 or 20. The baby measured 7 weeks, which made sense since I likely ovulated late. The doctor pushed my EDD back 1 week. Since then, the baby has been measuring ahead 1 week although my EDD is still the same. I wouldn't worry especially if you think you ovulated late. Chat Icon

Re: 1st- Dr visit (kinda long)

Try not to worry. My first visit I was around 5w too and they didn't see anything in the sac. I too was a "late ovulator", I ovualated on day 23 or something like that. By my next visit we saw something in there and the heartbeat was strong. I think it was 2 weeks later. I know it is torture...it is worse than waiting to get pg, because then you worry something may be wrong. However, you will be fine. Your doctor isn't worried, so try not to worry either. Chat Icon
