Re: Flu shot
I guess I should ask my Dr. I've never gotten one before but I don't know if it is different when you are pregnant.

Re: Flu shot
I work in a hospital, and they actually recommend that pregnant people get one. I got one last year for the first time, and didn't have any side effects.
Why is it bad?

I don't think they're bad...or know if they are in fact bad....i just know that I've never gotten one and never had the flu (knock on wood). I know old people and children and pregnant women are more susceptible to the virus, but i'm not sold that I really need to get the shot. I'm on crowded subways every single day of my life for years now, touching god knows what germs...if I haven't gotten it yet I think i'm ok. But who knows, I could be wrong.

I've never had one and have never had the flu. But my Dr. did strongly recommend that I get one this year.

Same here. I've gotten one ever since I had a bad case of the flu during college. I know it doesn't protect you against all strains, but since pregnancy suppresses a person's immunne system and I tend to get sick in the fall and winter anyway, it makes sense for me to get the shot. My doctor's office recommends getting it and I don't see any reason why I shouldn't get the shot.

Re: Flu shot
I usually get the Flu and Pneumonia shot every year because i'm an asthamtic and if I get either one I am extremely susceptible to being VERY VERY ill. I haven't even thought about what I was going to do this year. I'lll have to check with my midwife........

Re: Flu shot
never had one, and never will...
every year that they make them, they guess the strains that will predominate the season... frequently they guess wrong. so you can get the flu anyway! Also the strains mutate so quickly that frequently the strain that's hitting everyone didn't even exist when they were developing this years vaccine.
that's why some of you got the shot, and then got the flu.

Re: Flu shot
I usually get one every year, but I will be skipping it this year. The flu shot contains thimerasol. Since it was removed from nearly all infant vaccines, I figured I did not want any chance of exposure to thimerasol for the fetus.
I DID get the flu shot for my 1st pg totally against my better judgment... let my OB and my mother talk me into it. This time I'm going with my gut, because I hated the feelings of misgivings I had last time.
