SPINOFF: What would you tell another parent?

If you knew one of your kid's friends was doing any of the following would you tell the parents?

Smoking pot?
Smoking cigarettes?
Having sex?
Heavy petting?
doing acid?
sneaking out of the house?

I think I would have a hard time telling another parent something like that -- like you are the bearer of bad news, you know. What would you do?

Honestly, I think I'd tell them if I knew them or was friendly with them. If the roles were reversed, I'd want someone to tell me.

Tricky but I would want to know if it was my kid.

Re: SPINOFF: What would you tell another parent?

I think it all really depends on the kind of relationship I have with the parent. If I know them well, I'd probably tell them. If I didn't, I'd keep it to myself.

I think this falls into the same category as cheating spouse . . . most of us want to be told, but none of us would tell! Chat Icon

ETA: I have no idea what I would do in that situation. When I get confronted with it, I'll figure it out.

I think it would depend on my relationship with the parent - I wouldn't tell a complete stranger - but I would hope if it was a close friend I would say something and hope that they would tell me.

Re: SPINOFF: What would you tell another parent?

it depends on the kid and the relationship i had with the parent. I think of this often. I have a teen son and I would without a doubt want to know. Alot of my friends also want to know so if we hear anything we call each other. I have to say though, if I saw it with my own eyes and not just hearing about it I might call the mother regardless of my relationship. Who cares if the parent never talks to me again, maybe I helped the child some how in the long run. Ramble over now

Unless they were doing something that would REALLY hurt them, I probably wouldn't tell.

I'm going to be very honest here, I know my two SILs (14 and 17) are doing things they aren't "supposed" to, but I don't tell their mother (I am close to all three of them). They trust me and I won't violate that trust. I rather they can come to me if they need help, then feel like they can't b/c I may tell their mom.
