Chat Icon I would do this too -
I never want anything 'themed' though b/c I just think it's all cheesy and I hate anything cheesy.
But I will probably register for gender specific stuff ......

When I say theme, I mean invite saying "girl" or pink balloons. I am registering for all gender neutral stuff pretty much but...all my furniture is surely for girls only. And any clothing anyone would give would be pink if it's being said it's a girl. That's why I am torn.

I had an amnio so we know for sure our Chat Icon is a boy but if I were you I'd just roll with it and try not to worry. It's not VERY common that they are wrong and really it's not the end of the world if your Chat Icon ends up with some pink stuff. I really don't think he'll mind! Chat Icon

Oooooooh -

Well, one piece of advice my friend recently gave me was NOT to have a gender specific shower (ie: pink, girly invite etc) b/c for those who DON'T know what you're having, it's better to keep it that way b/c they buy more from your registry rather than saying "OMG it's a girl - I have to buy clothes" .......you know?

One way to look at it -

I don't want to scare you, but I know someone who was told it's a boy and she had a little girl! The baby's room was decorated in dinosaurs!!!! Chat Icon

I do agree with the PP who said that you may get less clothing and more things off of your registry if you don't "announce" what you're having.

Hmm. that's a thought. I would tend to think my family would buy from my registry though, and maybe throw in a girl peice of clothing. I don't think they will skip the neccessary registered items, and buy clothing instead. I think they would do both if anything.

As for pink, I don't mind all pink if it's a girl. Most of my family knows it's a girl anyway, since we already told people so I think they would buy girl items if they want anyway. And my registry I had put the caption "It's a girl" so that's there too.

I know it would all work out in the end, if my paranoia turns out to be true. So part of me says, whatever...

My 1st shower with DD, it said on the invitation that she was a girl. I didn't have any paranoia about it, but it makes people think that they should buy girl clothes instead of off the registry, which I wasnt happy with. I'm a clothes horse myself, so having people by clothes that weren't my style bothered me.

Ok good point! Maybe then not a gender theme invite, but my mom could do the shower in pink, etc, b/c by then they would have come with already purchased gifts!

What do you think of that?

Re: Those having a shower (esp pg with girls) do you want a gender themed shower (paranoia inside)

I've been to showers where people knew the sex and didn't know the sex. While I do see more clothes and personalized things at the showers where they knew the sex, I did find a lot of registery items where bought at both types.

I know I'll probably have a shower with a lot of blue involved. My mom and sis love to color code things. I don't mind and I'm not too worried.

Why not have a neutral themed shower? You can put pink stuff on the registry but do all sorts of pastel colors- blue, pink, yellow, green. This way you have the best of both worlds.

You had your shower already? Or you know what it looks like? Aren't you due around the same time as I am (Dec)?

my other mistake was to tell people what we were naming her, i got useless stuff with her name on it like a little white pillow with her initial on it Chat Icon and an ugly engraved first curl and first tooth holder.

Oh, we know better than that. No one was told the name, and will not be.

I think any type of shower can be cheesy, regardless of gender. Depends on who is hosting it entirely.
