Is 1 years old too late...
To dedicate/christian/baptize a baby?
I initially wanted to do it before he was 6 months...but dates with my church were not available until November...then 4 months later DS turns 1...
My problem is no matter how much I want to try to keep it small it will not be possible...my baby shower consisted of 178 guests!!!!
So for his first birthday I already know I have to rent a space but I can't afford to do something big for the dedication/baptism and then 4 months later do his 1st birthday...so DH suggested we do it March and celebrate both at the space we will rent.
AWESOME...except I feel sad that I am waiting so long to dedicate/baptize him.
Thoughts?

My DS was baptized when he was 6 month & he was baptized with one child who was well over one, maybe close to 2...so no i don't think 1 is too late at all!

My sister baptized my nephew when he was a week short of his 1st b-day. She had a double celebration of his baptism & his 1st b-day.

There was a 3 year old baptised at church last week -- I don't think there is an age limit

Re: Is 1 years old too late...
I've seen many older children that are baptised. I think doing a joint celebration is a wonderful idea

I needed to hear that...you know when you have a vision and its not working out that way you get so discouraged...that's where I was.
Thank you again

I don't think there is any too late time. I know at my church (episcopal) there are babies anywhere from 2-3 months - 18 months of age. I think it should be done when you are comfortable with doing it.

Re: Is 1 years old too late...
At DD's baptism there was a little girl who was prob 3. One of my co-workers does a combined 1st birthday party and baptism for all her kids. She said it was easier than doing 2 parties in a year. She has a huge family.

I think it would be fine---at DS baptism there were 2 kids about 5 years old baptized. Go for it, that will be one big party!

Re: Is 1 years old too late...
DD will be nearly 22 months old when we have her baptized. {Crossing my fingers that the date works this time.}
We tried at 6 months, and at 18 months but it never worked out. We are doing it in our home state since our families live there so that complicates things.

Re: Is 1 years old too late...
Never too late, and if it makes you feel better, DS has not been baptized yet either (he's 8.5 months). In all likelihood, this will happen around a year also, though I need to contact the church about dates.
