Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

Do you plan on having a 3rd? I always said I want 3 children...but now I have a healthy girl and a healthy boy...and am thinking I should be thankful and stop there? Then the other part of me isn't sure if I can accept never getting pregnant again, having a newborn, etc.

I was watching Dr. Phil today and it made me think about this seeing how one parent has a child with both down syndrome and severe autism and what it has done to their family. I also had a friend who just had a baby who has down syndrome and he is the sweetest little boy in the world...and while I know they will be okay...I know there can be a lot of complications with that as well and am sad that her child has to have major open heart surgery...might get lukemia...might develop autism (risks are all higher with babies with down syndrome). That breaks my heart. This all makes me scared should we decide to have a 3rd in the future.

What are your thoughts/future plans?

no more for me. i have my boy and my girl. and dh and i always said we wanted two. Plus due to circumstances another baby for me would be considered extremly high risk. So we are happy and feel complete with the two we were giving. Chat Icon

I would love to have a 3rd, or at least I think I would. However, that would mean 3 under 3 and I don't know that I can handle that. Plus, we have the perfect little family now.

i went through a short phase of thinking of 3. But I also have 1 and 1. We finally decided this is best for us.

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

We have always wanted two children. We have our little girl - hopefully we'll have one more child in 1-2 years. DH makes no secret of the fact that he would love to have 2 girls.

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

In MY perfect world I would have two boys and a girl.

Problem with that is - I really don't want to be pregnant TWO more times - and I want to be able to give my children everything I was given (brand new car, pay for their entire college ed, and family vacations throughout the year) and I think that with three I would be cutting it close.

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

I'm totally on the fence. We always talked about having 3 or 4 but I just don't have the energy for another. Hopefully we'll decide early next year if we want another. I don't want the kids more than 3 yrs (4 at most) apart.

Having a 3rd has so many implications for us, we'll need a bigger car, bigger house, and cost of daycare for 3 would be ridiculous.

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

I cannot even imagine having one more let alone 2!
I grew up me and my brother and DH was one and one also, so if the next is a girl, it's definitely done. Trying for a third to have a girl though? Doubtful.....

I'm 99.9% sure we're stopping at two. I kind of feel the same way you do.

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

I go back and forth, but right now- 90% of me says we are done. I feel like I would rather lavish love and time on the two that I have rather than divide among three. Less of us to go around, KWIM? I want to give full energy to the two that I have.

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

I always said I wanted 3 or 4 children. When we had just my 2 boys, I KNEW that we would have a 3rd baby and I knew that my 3rd would be my last (because I cannot fathom having 4 c-sections.... 3 was enough thank-you-very-much).

My family is complete now with my 2 boys and my baby girl Chat Icon

We'll be going from having 1 to having 3. DH and I can't decide if this will be it or not. Although I have had great pregnancies, i can't imagine being pregnant with 3 young kids. Adoption is a very definite possibility for #4.

Our DS is almost 4 months old, and we plan on TTC # 2 within the next year. We would like to have # 3 about 2 years after that, and then close up shop Chat Icon

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

We have two, and we are DONE.

Reasons why:
-Having a boy and a girl worked out great for us in that we have one of each, and are happy with that. If I had two boys, we MIGHT have gone for a third, but I don't think so.
-We like having 1 parent to 1 child. I normally take DD and DH takes DS.
-We can use my sedan for work as our car and don't have to upgrade to a large SUV or minivan.
-We don't have to move as we live in a 3 bedroom house.
-I am not a fan of being pregnant, and the thought of carrying another baby makes meChat Icon Chat Icon
-I had some surgery done and if I get pregs again, that $$ is down the toilet!

BUT, I will say, that it makes me sad in a way. I see a newborn and get very sad that I will NEVER have that again. I get very sad at DD's milestones because it is the LAST time that I will have that first (first tooth, rolling over, step, etc).

I am happy with our choice, I just get upset that I will never be a mommy to a newborn again.

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

I want a third just because I grew up with 2 brothers and I loved it---DH might not be on board with this though--also, it doesnt help that i absolutely LOVE being preggo

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

For me I never really thought about it...

All I know is that after I had the twins I was sure that I was done...

When I met DH we were sure that we were done....

When DH got engaged we said that we were done....

When we got married we started talking...

well you know the rest....

Now I am done...not b/c I dont want any more...it's more like we have enough. I would have had another one...Chat Icon

Re: Moms who have or plan on having 2 or more children

I have one DS with DH and he also has two other boys. I always wanted two of my own, but now that Thomas is here, I feel totally complete. Besides the fact that DH would probably go over the edge with four kids, I feel like if I "pushed my luck" and insisted on having another, I wouldn't be lucky enough to have another healthy baby.

Ultimately I would love to have 4 but that probably won't happen so 3 would be ideal and a real possibility. I loved being pregnant and was fortunate to have a really good pregnancy the first time around...so we'll see.

I feel similarly to you--I feel like it's almost tempting fate to go for a 3rd. We have 2 healthy girls and I could not ask for more. Also, now that the little one is becoming more independent, it's kind of nice!

However, I know in my heart that I am not done. I've always wanted at least 3--always. Even now, I go to my attic and see all the "little baby" stuff--the swing, the bouncer, etc. and I get a little choked up that most likely I can only do it one more time. It's NOT going to happen, but I'd probably be crazy enough to have 4 or 5!

This is exactly how I feel. I am almost positive I will be fine with my two...but there is no way I'd close up shop or have my husband...because there is always the possibility of "maybe". I feel like I should give my girl clothes to someone who needs them, but I can't bring myself to do it - partially because my DD once wore them and I feel like I'm giving away her infancy...and part of it because "maybe" in the future there will be a third.Chat Icon
