Which would you prefer? Daycare/Nannies/Grandparents
I've just started to think about childcare.
Which would you prefer?
A. Daycare B. Nannies C. Grandparents
I think I would like to send my child to daycare when s/he is about 1.5-2 years old but when the baby is still an infant, I'd like the baby to be taken care of at home.
Are there any good daycare listing websites? Maybe like a ranking site?

Re: Which would you prefer? Daycare/Nannies/Grandparents
i prefer family in the beginning, only because i know i feel infinitely more comfortable placing demands on my sister (who will be watching ) than on a day care center that has more than one baby to focus on.
later on, when becomes more mobile, i am pretty sure i will start looking at day care facilities so he has other abbies to interact with.

I'm with you. I wouldn't mind putting my child into daycare when he/she is 1.5-2 years but I can't see my newborn in daycare. Luckily my mother has agreed to watch the baby for the first year.

Re: Which would you prefer? Daycare/Nannies/Grandparents
I'm not a fan of daycare at such a young age, I personally would prefer one on one time..that being said, I love my parents and I love DH's parents, but I feel that they would want to raise my child the way THEY seem fit, and I may or may not agree with them, as to a Nanny, I think or at least I hope she would listen to my ideas and what I want and don't want to be done...then again, I"m not comfortable with a stranger with my baby...so as you can see, I'm insanely torn!!!!

Re: Which would you prefer? Daycare/Nannies/Grandparents
I think it depends on the baby. I always thought I would keep G out until 1.5 - 2 years, but he had such a great experience in DayCare and loved the socialisation. He was 10 mos when I went back to work. I worked literally 5 min from the center & would drop in every day at a different time unannounced. The daycare did not mind at all and they were always doing the right thing.
This time I will have to go back to work right away (8 weeks) and I am going to have MIL watch the new baby. The main reason is that G will be in school F/T and she will go through withdrawls not having one of the grandkids, and also I cannot afford infant care tuitions and school tuition for G. It would take 90% of my pay!

Re: Which would you prefer? Daycare/Nannies/Grandparents
we were fortunate to have had MIL with DS until he was about 1 1/2 yrs. she's ill now, so that's why we put him into daycare. he's really thriving there now. not sure what we're gonna do about DC #2 on the way...
i would prefer to have family watch them when they're young, but others have put their DCs into daycare at a much younger age and have been fine.\
GL with your decision! it was one of the toughest ones i've had to make thus far!

Ideally grandparents in the beginning, because after you and DH, I believe they are next in line as far as loving your DC the most, and at the beginning that's most important.
I have no problems with Daycare after they are a little bit older. If you're lucky enough to have family in the beginning I would try that first.
GOOD LUCK!

I also want to throw out there (and feel free to look at the many posts on Parenting) that sometimes paid professionals are more likely to listen to your wishes as a parent than family.

Re: Which would you prefer? Daycare/Nannies/Grandparents
In a perfect world, where we could make such a choice, I prefer family first, nanny second, and daycare 3rd... at least for the first couple years.
There are 2 reasons for this: grandparents first becuase they LOVE Scone and want what is best... there is no substitute.
I prefer a nanny as the 2nd choice, becuase I want to delay a good portion of the vaccinations until after age 2 (when the brain is fully myelinated... just in case that is a contributing factor to autism). A child cannot be in daycare or school and be exposed to whatever w/o first receiving proper immunizations.
While daycare is third on my under 2 list, I think it's a good thing for toddlers to socialize and develop their own unique personalities. I hope Scone gets exposed to daycare / school situations during that early developmental period.

Yup.....thats why I'm torn...esp with DH's parents that would prob be the ones watching her, since my parents are no where near retirement....I feel like his mom especially has a SAY about everything...The other day she told us " I hope you aren't planning on giving the baby a bottle in the car, bc she can choke." I also have to add she is a nurse so whatever comes out of her mouth DH thinks is the holy grail , momma's boy much....so of course, I really don't want her watching our baby girl, since I totally think she's going to raise her in a way that I totally DISAGREE with, and will be a cause of many arguments with DH....

My mom is watching Baby R until s/he is about 2 and then s/he will start preschool at our church/school which is right next to my office. My mom also only lives about a mile from my office. I couldn't be any more blessed

Re: Which would you prefer? Daycare/Nannies/Grandparents
DS started daycare 2 days a week at 3 months old and MIL watches him 1 day a week. I think it's a good balance. IMHO, it's just too much to ask a grandparent to watch a child full-time, especially as they start to get active.
It just wouldn't work for me to have either my mom or my MIL watching my children full-time -- I feel like it really blurs the grandparent/parent role and makes for sticky situations.
I also really like the social aspect of daycare, especially after the first year.

Re: Which would you prefer? Daycare/Nannies/Grandparents
In the imaginary world of ease and all wishes granted...
Grandparent (dad) Nanny Day care
My father is so in love this with this little girl already. Finanical its SO much cheaper, peace of mind, etc.
Nanny is number 2 cause its more intimate and like pp, i could wait off on shots.
Day care, provides socialization and exposure to sights and sounds, etc.
unfortuately.. life isn't easy. Dad is 2000 miles away, I can't afford a Nanny so I'm left with Day Care.
it is what it is.

In MY perfect world, I prefer me or DH and/or family first, and daycare 2nd only when he is a toddler for interactions and peer relations. But, vaccinations will be an issue.

Def Family. My Mom and SIL have been watching Andrew since he was 3 months old. He is a little over 2 yrs old now.
I am so happy we have family to watch him instead of putting him in daycare.

Since we cant afford daycare, we will be using a babysitter that takes care of our daughter, she has been great so far.

In an ideal world, my mom would watch for at least a few days per week. Since she lives 3 hours away, that isn't happening.
I think there are positives and negatives with both daycare and nannies. I'd prefer a nanny, but as of now, we're planning on using a daycare center.
