Bf to Ff help from BTDT moms needed

The time has come, I'm sad to say, to wean Rocco from BF. Not because I want to, but because I know I have to. I have no clue what my new room looks like and won't know for quite a while (preplanning) so....

I figured, I'd do 1 bottle a week till I go back to work and then hopefully I'll still have milk for morning and evening sessions, if not, oh well - it has to end one day

my question is..how did you know which formula to use with your child when you weaned? I won't see my new ped till mid august and I can't wait that long.

Does generic formula differ much from Enfamil/Similac? Which do you suggest and why?

I started w/6oz of formula when I weaned at 4mos ... b/c thats seemed standard. Then DS would cry for more...so I eventually went up to 7oz, then 8oz (which is a lot of formula!) and he was getting a little chubby. My pedi said 8oz is alot and babies will typically cry for more no matter how much you give him. He said back it up to 6oz and I've kept it that way ever since...and he slimmed down back to normal. I think 6oz is typically enough. That was when he was like 4 mos old...and he is still getting 6oz per bottle (4x a day) at 11mos old now too...only now w/food.

I always used what my Dr. told me to use, simalac advance and I never tried anything else.

thank you dana - i guess i forgot to ask how much f to feed but u ans. my question. i guess i'll try 6 oz and see how it goes.
