We went blueberry picking today!
It was great great fun! At one point I was having a hard time filling up the basket because as fast as I picked them, Emily would gobble them up!
I definately recommend it. I liked it more then strawberry picking, it isn't as back breaking! The farm sells lots of other fruit too. We got some scrumptous fresh locally grown apricots that are wonderful!!
Emily liked to put the little baskets on everyone's heads!

It was out in Cutchogue....Wickam's Fruit Farm ..... they sell lots of stuff, and also have strawberry picking, peach picking, but during other times in the year.
They were selling blackberries, blueberries, peaches, plums, nectarines, all kinds of tomatos including these AMAZING orange baby tomatos, homemade baked goods, jams, ciders, donuts, it was a great farm.
It is the only farm on LI that offers blueberry picking.

I drove past Wickhams today. Had to go to Pindar to pick up some wine I was tempted to stop with the kiddos and do some picking but then I remembered me and a field w/ 3 kids alone isn't such a hot idea. It's a great place to pick!

If you haven't done so I highly recommend the Robert McCloskey book Blueberries for Sal about a little girl who goes blueberry picking up in Maine. It was one of my all time favorite picture books when I was little

There were a TON more that were still on the bushes that were not yet ready to be picked. I'd imagine that it would still be fine next week.
Also KPToys, if you are worried about being with 3 kids in a field, the blueberries are in a closed in area. They have it all screened off to protect them from animals so it's fully enclosed. SO once you're in the mesh tent, they would be contained.
