Anyone else feel guilty about going on Maternity leave?
I know I shouldn't, but I do. I'm still in the learning process at my job, so each day brings a new challenge for me. I love it here- the people, the work, the whole work ethic. Problem is, I have just about a month to go until I'm out on leave for 3 months. I'm afraid of coming back & forgetting everything!!!!
Not only that, its going to be so hard getting back into the groove of things & pick up where I left off. There definitely will be someone doing my job while I am away, so I'm not worried about getting bombarded with piles of work- I guess I'm just going to hate re-ajusting to my daily routine here. It took me a while to create one.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I totally felt that way when I went out for baby #1. I felt like I could not leave what I was doing for someone else to handle (lo and behold, they did just fine).
This time I feel guilty but for a different reason. I work for family, so I won't get the standard 6 or 8 week "leave". Upside is, I get paid full for my time out, but downside is I am the only one to be able to do certain things, so I will still be "working" from home.

not really
I do have a new co-teacher working with me this school year, so I really have to show her the ropes in the few weeks I will be back at work.
But at the end of the day, nothing can make me feel guilty for staying home with my

HELLL NO!! I have 79 more calendar days before I go on Maternity Leave. I am so happy that I have a civil service job so that I am out on Leave 1 month before my due date. My immediate bosses have been getting on my nerves so I am ready to go!! Come on Sept. 26th!!

I'm a teacher also....I feel bad for my leave replacement since he/she will have such a short amount of time to get acclimated, but I really do not feel guilty about taking time to be with my baby. I wish I could take more than the 12 weeks.

Considering I only get the standard 6 or 8 weeks disability and am planning to actually ask for more time off.....I work for a great company and they treat me well, but as the PP I'd rather be home with my

Same here, I am trying to figure out some way to be able to do my job from home so I can be with the baby longer. Only problem is that my company does not exactly embrace telecommuting.

My due date is right around the time of the 8th grade ELA exam and since my school's scores have been highly critisized this year, I am feeling a bit guilty about it.

Helllll NO! I was a manager with DD #1 and couldn't wait to get the heck out and go back PT. I'm working FT again  and I am counting my time to a nice long leave of 9-10 months

yes! I totally understand how you feel. I'm working until November and find myself worrying about how it will feel when I come back although all of my work will be covered while I'm gone...I still don't know if I will be returning after my 3 month maternity leave because we do not have anyone to watch the baby, but as far as work knows, I'll be back after..It defintely is stressful though!

I know I will greatly enjoy it--but I do feel a bit guilty for leaving my class for 3 months. Especially because they take 3 MAJOR end-of-grade tests in 5th grade (think Regents in NY), and I'll be losing a lot of review time with them.

Have to be honest............I won't miss a single solitary minute of work!! As much as I love being a teacher I'm can't stand my administration, I hate working in Queens, I'm tired of the commute, and more than anything..........no matter how much less money we'll have I'm SO ready to just be home and enjoy every single minute with our child. We've waited a long time for this baby and I don't want to miss a minute so I won't miss work or teaching one bit!

My sentiments exactly I had a bad day at work today, but I gave them plenty of notice to prepare for my departure and I have gone above and beyond during the pregnancy as it is. If I could go on leave tomorrow I would (and don't think I'm not trying to figure out how ).

I don't feel guilty about leaving my job at all. I will actually feel guilty about leaving DS. I wish I could stay home and be a SAHM but we just can't finanically swing it.
