Geothermal heating and cooling...
Can someone tell me about this? Approx. how much does it cost to install?
I have read it is something they are now installing in many new houses...more energy efficient, environmentally friendly and reduces utility bills by upwards of 50%. But I am sure it is $$$ to install. Anyone know anyone who has it?

Bumping because I know that someone on here was getting it... I'll see if I can find the user/thread.
It sounds like a great idea, as long as the cost isn't too much.

Re: Geothermal heating and cooling...
It is being installed in two of the luxury homes DH is building in Water Mill. So far the installation has benn $$$$ and a major PITA,. There aren't too many companies on LI that know much about it, it very common in other areas with mild winters. I want to see how the systems work when the homes are finished. We are leaning back toward solar again.

I just talk to DH that we should look into solar energy.

Re: Geothermal heating and cooling...
This is something I am really interested in as well. I was looking into it about a year or so ago, information I found said it would be about 10K to install and would pay for itself in 5-7 years (however these were generic information websites, not a regional company which I feel would be more accurate).
I live Upstate near Albany; one of the colleges here is building a large new building that will be heated/cooled with a geothermal system - I am anxious to see how it pans out in this climate before we make the plunge to convert our home.

Re: Geothermal heating and cooling...
I'm pretty sure that LIPA offers incentives for installing these, but I'm not sure how much of a price break it is.
I've been noticing that this is becoming a common feature in the new construction homes I always have my eye on out East (not that we can afford any of them! lol). I would love to buy a newly built energy efficient home or one that already has solar panels installed
