Any danger if our dogs get vaccines while we are pg?
Does anyone know if it is dangerous if your dog has to get his vaccines while you are pg? I plan to ask the dr (both vet and OB), but was wondering if anyone on here has any input as well. Thanks

i have no idea, but why would it be since they are shots and we don't come in contact with them? it goes directly into their bodies and doesn't touch ours.

Well, my reasoning was....I know that some human vaccines are live vaccines that pose a risk to immunocompromised people. What happens is in cases where it is a live vaccine (I think the Polio for humans), the live vaccine is excreted in the stool. So coming into contact with the stool in those cases can pose a risk to the immune compromised (pg women are considered immunocompromised I believe).
So I was thinking in terms of live vaccines and what I know about that, so that's my thought process on that. But animal vaccines may be totally different and even most human vaccines don't fall into this category as a risk to others. So I was curious if anyone's vet ever said anything and I am sure I am totally off base on this. But just had to ask b/c it has passed through my mind.

Good question....actually my OB told me to hold off on getting my pup the parvovirus vaccine until after the baby was born. My vet agreed. There are different forms of the vaccine though, so where my vet used live vaccine at the time your vet may use another form. Definitely ask. HTH

Wow, thanks for sharing. Isn't the parvovirus the Fifth's disease in humans? Luckily, I am actually immune to that as per my blood tests, but I would probably hold off out of paranoia.
Did you get the other vaccines and just hold off on that one?
