Question about stage 3/chunkier foods...

DS is 9.5mos and I have been trying to introduce some chunkier foods - he definitely chews and is ok for some of it but, sometimes he gags and today he actually threw up. Does this mean he is not ready for this and I should wait a week or so and then try again or is there a "getting used to it" phase where he has to keep trying it to get past the gagging? I felt sooooooooo bad when he threw up I immediately switched back to more pureed foods. The thing is he IS chewing but sometimes I think if a chunk gets too far back on his tongue he freaks out. What should I do now? TIA Chat Icon

Keep trying a very little at time. DS had a very strong gag reflex. I just kept at it with the chunkier foods and little by little he got better and better. He never did do well with Stage 3 foods though. I think it was the combination of puree mixed with surprising chunks that threw him off. He was ready to swallow puree and then would be surprised to find a chunk here and there.

My daughter always gaged on stage 3. Other than fruits and a few select things we staged on stage2 and introduced other foods (like puffs and shredded chicken) that she could chew instead.

just keep introducing a little at a time.

I also give my dauter oatmeal with mashed bannana but i keep lumps in it so she has to feel the texture and chew that may help also.
