I think that people who think its a myth like to live in a bubble of cant happen to me.
I think " An Inconvienent Truth" should be shown to EVERYONE and then they decide.
I have seen it and the data is nice, but the cycle is not complete.
Explain the last Ice age????
There are many factors which cause these problems and increased levels which were not mentioned, like livestock and it's effect on the CO2 levels.
Let me just say that my SUV and I are gonna be OK.

Why does everyone keep mentioning the last ice age? What does that have to do with global warming. I am not going to rewrite what I typed a few posts ago, but the idea is that the change in climate over the past 150 does not fit in the cyclic pattern of global climate change.
The number of cattle was mentioned in An Inconvienient Truth and for your information this greenhouse gas associated with cattle is METHANE not carbon dioxide.
I can't belive your arrogant statement about the SUV.

WHAT? Who actually thinks it's a myth? I just can't believe there are people out there that actually don't believe it or think it's not as serious as it really is.
I agree and I haven't read the whole post but if you think it's a myth you have to be an idiot

Extreme climate changes are not a new concept. Some believe the dinosaurs became extinct due to climate changes. It's just that we hear about it more.
I do believe it is happening right now. ITA
ice age anyone?
There have been many ice ages over geologic time. In fact, we are in an interglacial period right now. The evidence behind global warming does not argue that climat changes cyclicaly, what it shows is that temperature has risen DRAMATICALLY over the past 150 years, which in geologic time is the blink of an eye. When we look at the cycles from the past the warming and cooling happened over tens, hundreds of thousands or millions of years, not 150.
If we look at the trends, you would probably even see that we are in a cooler time right now than we have seen in the geologic past. (Hence interglacial period) HOWEVER, the rise we have seen since the industrial revolution is what we are looking at.
As for the dinosaurs and other global extinctions - yes one of the theories is climate change. Actually the dinosaur theory at the moment is that a huge meteor crashed into earth and sent so much debris into the air it caused the climate to change.
I think we just wrote an identical post Great minds....
I just saw that!
I'll throw my mind into this mix, b/c it was what I would have said.
it might lower the "great" minds to just "good" though

Hey, speak for yourself!
Seriously, I think anyone who does not believe that pollution is making a dramatic impact on our environment and health, is in serious denial.

And THAT (above response) is why I never respond to polarizing posts.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
But to make nasty judgments about others who don't agree with you?

Not that I agree with the idiot comment, but I honestly don't think that this topic is an "opinion" topic. There is hard-core scientific evidence that global warming exists.

Not that I would use the word "idiot" but I get what she's saying - and I agree with SweetTooth. I don't think this is really an 'opinion' debate - it's either you believe the facts presented or you don't. And personally I think anyone who chooses not to believe the facts presented is ignoring a very real truth, which is sort of the definition of ignorant, right?

Listen, I agree with you about there being evidence that we are feeling the effects of global warming.
My problem lies in the nasty comments people make in response to differing opinions.

I think ti's definitely true, but to the actual amount, I believe that may be extremely exagerrated.
One of the meterologists was on the radio the other night... I forget who it was??? SAm Champion? and he made a great point... how do we know that the climate is changing significantly. he made a good point about climate and weather going through cycles. Yes, things are warmer than they have been in our lifetimes, but that is normal... it may have been like that years ago and it's just going through it's normal cycle. also, there were years and years of weather and climate patterns that we have no record of because there wasn't the technology to do it.
Do i believe that we MUST reduce waste, use less oil, come up with alternative fuels, recycle, etc. OF COURSE! but i am not naive enoough to think that the world is going to severely change in the next 100 years like the liberal media, Gore and the like, lead some to believe.
ETA: I am an Independent.
Ditto. But I am actually registered Green party.

ETA: I am an Independent. I agree with your POV. as for Gore... here's a quote from Glenn Beck who I happen to think is a brilliant writer.
"Despite the media's one-sided view (the Business and Media Institute says dissenting voices about global warming are outnumbered on CBS News broadcasts by a 38 to 1 ratio), only 21 percent of Americans say "the release of greenhouse gasses is the most important factor causing global warming" according to a 2007 New York Times/CBS News poll.
The "60 Minutes" piece wasn't just filled with misrepresentations of opinion; it had plenty of Gore-style hypocrisy. He was embroiled in controversy when it was revealed his mansion used 20 times more energy than the average American. His explanation? "Since then" his house has been retrofitted with solar panels. I'm sure Eliot Spitzer hasn't been renting many women since he was caught either. (Although I'm not betting my life on it.)
We then see footage of Gore's parents' farm that will, sometime in the future, be run on wind power. Apparently, the windmill store has been out of stock for the past 20 years.
The entire "60 Minutes" piece felt like a commercial for Gore's upcoming commercials. He's spending $300 million in advertising to convince people of something he claims there is already a consensus on. To put that much money into perspective; it's more than Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. John Edwards, Sen. John McCain, former Gov. Mike Huckabee and Rep. Ron Paul raised in all of last year combined. Think of it as going green by getting lots of green.
Where is all that money coming from? Gore says he's donating his profits from "An Inconvenient Truth," and his Nobel Peace Prize cash award. Let's be generous and say there's only $290 million left to explain. Apparently, a follow-up question to find the origins of this nine-figure sum would have involved six seconds that "60 Minutes" wasn't willing to commit.
