Just finished Water for Elephants (contains a small spoiler for those planning to read)

Loved it!!!

Even though the book documents how tough circus life during the depression was, I could not help but constantly think that there must have been so many people who fantasized about running off from hum-drum lives and joining the circus. Part of me is interested in reading more about circus culture. I would definitely be interested in going to the circus museum in Fla. where many of the pictures in the book came from. I would also like to know more about how the circus has changed and how it has stayed the same. All in all this was a great book with so many interesting aspects. It was well written, too.

It was a combination of LIF posts and my "personalized" suggested reading list from Amazon that lead me to read this book. The only thing is that I was promised a surprise ending but I had figured it out before I got there. If I did not know to be on the alert for a surprise, I might have had more fun with the ending.

I enjoyed this book immensley!! I thought it was wonderfully written.
I am always pestering the owner of the book shop that I buy in for things to read and he's the one the recommended it.

Like you, I felt that I wanted to learn more about circus culture from that era - the answers she gave at the end of the book were very interesting I thought.

I read it last week and loved it! I was not expecting the ending and thought it was just perfect.

I am not a circus fan, but love American history and thought it captured the Depression era quite well.

I'm so glad I read it!

I loved it too.. My mother loved it, she remembered what it was like when she was a child and the circus would come to town.

I really enjoyed it and thought it was very descriptive of circus culture at that time.
I thought it was sad how the animals were treated though...

I enjoyed it - but didn't love it. It was a quick read though - great for vacation.
