An Update on my friend and her pregnancy (updated again!)...
I heard from my friend yesterday and she had the results from her amnio.
The quick backstory is that when she went for her 20 week sonogram they found fluid around the baby's lungs. They sent her to a high-risk doctor. He said that it was called "pleural effusion" and that it could be Down's Syndrome, could have been an infection, and that most likely the baby would need an operation (in womb) to put a stunt into the baby's lungs to drain the fluid.
She had the amnio last week (she is 22 weeks now) and it isn't Down's Syndrome and is not viral either.
She is still going to need the surgery, but she is feeling positive. She has been really positive through this whole thing even though she has her moments of being really upset.
So the next step is that she'll be going to a hospital in Philidelphia for the operation. There are only 4 hospitals in the U.S. who do the surgery.
Please keep her and her baby in your prayers as it will be a risky procedure.
Another Update 5/24: She had another sono this AM and it looks like a lot of the fluid is no longer there ---- about 75% of it was gone! So now they are saying that there is a possibility that it might clear up on it's own, which is VERY good news --- to not have to go through the surgery!
Please pray that it clears up on its own and that the baby will be OK!!!
