Need advice...what would you do?

Ok..so I've been working at my current corrupt company for 8 years. They laid off 3 people in my department, and I'm the only one left.....doing 4 jobs and no promotion/raise. I have busted my arse and all promotions and raises are on hold because the company lost money last year. It would be best for my career to leave this place and I would def make more money, but hubby and I will TTC in January. I can come and go as I please at my current job, and have banked sick time and vacation time.

Would you leave or stay if you were planning to start TTC in January?

TIA ladies.
I appreciate it.

If I was going to TTC in January-- I would absolutely look now for a new job.

The only other alternative-- is if they do lay you off, and you have been there for so long-- you might get a really nice severance. Do you know what they did for other people??

Re: Need advice...what would you do?

wow.. that is really tough..

i almost have the same situation though.. when i was pregnant the first time i had all sorts of appts, so the flexibility is great! so i opted to stay!

what if you went out to look for other jobs and mention your situation?? can it hurt.?. maybe find out how flexible they are.??

OR you can stay at your job but have a plan that after you have a baby you can start looking then??

sorry im not much help..Chat Icon

Thank you!
I would probably get 8 weeks severance.

If you want a new job, I would look now. If you don't do this in the next few months, then I would stay where you are. remember you have to be with a company for at least 12 months to be eligible for FMLA.

Re: Need advice...what would you do?

Well even though you're TTC starting January..who knows how long the process will take. I mean, you could get preggo right away, but it may also take longer than you expected.

If that's the case, I'm not sure I would stay at that job for xxxx amount of months, when you could find a perfectly, better suited job that could be just as accommodating.

That's just my take on it..but of course you must do whatever makes you comfortable. Either way..GL with everything!!!!!!

Re: Need advice...what would you do?

I would find a new job that has a culture friendly to families. Assuming you want to work after having a child, you will want an environment where they would be open to flex hours and be more understanding. I wouldn't wait to get a better job. You don't know how long it will take to conceive. Plus you won't show right away anyways.
