Bank of America HATERS
Does anyone else really hate bank of america.. I'm having such trouble with them... they keep charging me all these crazy fees.. I spent an hour at the bank yesterday only to accomplish nothing.. and then I go onto my online banking today (after being assured yesterday that everything was free and clear after my account had gotten blocked the other day) and I was charged $175 in overdraft fees even though my account is never shown going negative..
I feel like I'm going to lose it.. with a 2 1/2 year old I really don't have the time to fight with these people
They refuse to give me my money back, and are pretty much f**** me on a "technicallity"
UGHHHH.. I'm switching to WAMU this weekend..
Any ideas on how I can force these morons to give me my money back?

i am sorry BOA is giving you such a problem. the only thing i would do is get a hold of the corporate number and call them. the customer service agents, no offense to anyone who is with BOA, don't know much. and if they do, they aren't very helpful..but to be honest, this happens with every banking issue, no matter what bank.
i use BOA and i think it rocks. it has the best online banking.

I used to like BOA UNTIL they call EVERYDAY at around 9am and after 7pm, even on sundays to sell me insurance. I told them to remove my number and they are still calling!

You can sue them for this if you document every time they call you and they continue to call you.
http://www.junkbusters.com/self.html
Next time they call, ask for a copy of their do-not call policy in writing. If they don't send it to you, you can sue them for that as well.
Typical violation is $500 bucks. It's free money.

Re: Bank of America HATERS
I HATE BOA!!!! We had so many fights with them over fees we shouldn't have been charged for. Finally, I had enough and we switched to DH's credit union and I have a small account at Chase. So far, no problems with the new banks. Just when I thought it was over with BOA, DH went in and personally closed our accounts, we got printed confirmations and everything then, the following month, we got a statement and they charged us the monthly maintenance fee and our account was overdrawn by the $4.95 fee!!! I was livid. DH called the branch and they said they would take care of it. I guess we just have to wait until next month and see!

Re: Bank of America HATERS
Here is a tip for everybody. Don't do your banking with any of the major banks. It's not worth it.
You will get much better service with a smaller mom and pop bank that is out of state.
You can very easily get a checking account that pays 6% interest. All you have to do to get this rate is have direct deposit. Make 10-12 debit cards transactions (sounds like this isn't a problem for many posters here based on a previous thread). And get your statements electronically.
Worried about ATM access? Many of these mom and pop banks will REINBURSE YOU for your ATM fees. Going to that BOA ATM that is charging a $2.50 surcharge? The mom and pop bank will reinburse you this $2.50. This is great because once you get ATM fee reinbursement, you can literally use ANY ATM. You are not locked in with your existing bank's ATMs to avoid fees.
Do you tend to make a lot of deposits? Then use a local major bank for your deposits. Then use that bank's ACH online transfer capabilities to move money from the crappy major local bank to your 6% bank. I use Citibank for this. I like their ACH features. It's free, only takes three business days to move money, and you can move up to $2000 per day.
And if you ever have a problem, if you call their customer service you are typically calling the bank directly. Not some stupid call center in India. 100x better customer service.
Don't give major banks your banking business. You will get much better deals elsewhere. I was doing the majority of my banking with a bank in Maryland. Now I am moving my money to a bank in North Carolina.

Re: Bank of America HATERS
I've had problems with both Chase and BOA between car loans, credit cards, and bank accounts.
This is one of the major reasons we switched to Wamu, besides convenience:
Those incidents are identity-theft incidents. I got that from Consumerist.com where you can do a search on BOA or any bank to get the skinny on consumer complaints.
You love them and have no problems until there's a problem. Then you'll probably wind up hating them. I had too many run-ins and problems over the years to stay with them.

Worried about ATM access? Many of these mom and pop banks will REINBURSE YOU for your ATM fees. Going to that BOA ATM that is charging a $2.50 surcharge? The mom and pop bank will reimburse you this $2.50. This is great because once you get ATM fee reimbursement, you can literally use ANY ATM. You are not locked in with your existing bank's ATMs to avoid fees.
Do you tend to make a lot of deposits? Then use a local major bank for your deposits. I agree...It doesn't necessarily have to be out of state though.
I have a checking at a local CU and my checking acct gets a interest rate of 4%. No minimum balance and no monthly fees. I get direct deposit, and just have to make 12 debit purchases a month. I also get all of my ATM fees automatically refunded at the end of the month, so no worrying about where I'm going to go for a free ATM.
Smaller places like these are more likely to refund you if you have a fee assessed, and are generally much nicer when you call customer service.
I've heard so many bad things about BOA.

I only mentioned out of state because there aren't any financial institutions in New York State offering 6% or higher on checking (that I know of).
I go where the money is.
I used to get 4.25% on checking with my old bank in MD which was good. Until the fed started their rate drop craze. Now I just said the hell with it and went to a 6% bank. No minimum balance requirements, just meet the three requirements to get your 6%.

on that link you just posted, the higher the rate, the lower the balance cap...can you open more than one acct at the same institution?

No. You would have to open a 6% account at a different insitution and meet their requirements.
The direct deposit requirement is easy to meet. If you have an employer that can split direct deposits between banks, simple. If not, any ACH-in transfer usually meets the direct deposit requirement.
So deposit money at Citibank, do an ACH from Citi to your 6% bank. Problem solved for that month. Just check with the bank, some have minimum direct deposit amount requirements (typically around $200).
As far as the debit card purchases, thats a little harder to meet. If you and your husband are big debit card users. Open one account in your name at one bank. One account in his name at another. Get 6% at both places!

Re: Bank of America HATERS
When I lived in CA, I had all of my accounts with Bof A because there is practically an ATM on every corner there.
They bounced my payroll check and started charging me up the yingyang for overdraft protection for their error. After spending eons on the phone, I got it all straightened out to find out a month later when I got my statement that it wasn't all cleared up. Then the snotty rep starts talking down to me until I told her who I spoke to on the date in question with a verification # - THEN she couldn't have been nicer. Needless to say I didn't have any accounts here until they took over my MBNA credit card and shortened the billing period, so my bill is due sooner than it used to be.

that's what I thought. still doable though....

I don't like Wamu b/c they don't have an overdraft line- I switched from them to Chase.
BoA just charged me a late fee on my CC which wasn't even late.. I called & they had no problem taking off charge- but I swear they do it just to see what they can get away with.

this is very similar to my experience with northfork about 10 years ago. It took a while to clear that up... (especially the bounced payments to my credit cards, becuase they 'accidentally' missed all acct deposits for 2 months The second it was cleared up, I closed my accts and went to a credit union... no problems ever since
I had MBNA / BofA credit cards on automatic payment.... but they kept shifting the payment dates earlier and earlier.. in the end, some accts were paid 2 days late instead of 7 days early... becuase of that, they tried to raise my interest rates to something outrageous. In the interim, my FICA scores were great, and I was receiving sublime offers from other companies... I totally ditched them!
