Silicone vs. Latex nipple
Is one better than the other or is this a preference thing? How do you know which to use?

I think Latex is softer and most newborns like it more. Silicone is easier to keep clean and last longer. DD liked both and had no problem switching between nipples but some babies do have a preference. I would suggest trying both and seeing which one works out better for you.

a preference thing.
When the DS was born he was drinking the ready made Similac in the hospital and they gave us disposable latex ones
when we got home and started him on the Silicone, he wanted no part of it. So we had to buy all new latex nipples.
Since about 4 mos he has been using the Silicone

We had to use silicone nipples, I am highly allergic to latex and besides the fact that I couldn't handle the nipples, we didn't know if DS is/was allergic as well.

DD takes both of them...no problem switching between the 2...the latex is def. softer.

The recommendation is to use silicone since babies can develop a sensitivity or allergy to latex and I believe latex breaks down faster in heat when washing.
