Anyone Having Their Homeowners Insurance Not Being Renewed???
I am so mad right now. We got a letter in the mail from All State saying they are not renewing our homeowners insurance due to every excuse in the book.... Katrina, the high probability that a hurricane is going to hit LI, Elliot Spitzer's administration. They place the blame on everything but themselves. I am livid now...we have auto and umbrella policies with them.
I saw in a thread awhile back that it seems Travelers is doing the same.
We want to switch them all over to a new insurance company. Can anyone recommend one they are using and if they have good rates.

Just another reason I want to move off LI....it's getting ridiculous to live here.

I went through a broker, the best rates and coverage for me is through Adirondack insurance. I did a package home/car/umbrella.
The hurricane deductible suxx 5% but I founf that with most companies I priced out unless I wanted to pay a super high premium.
Any chance your father or grandfather was in the military? There are very good plans for families of military personnell.

My grandfather was in the military for a long time. He's passed on though....is that an issue? I never knew that I could get a plan by him.

I didn't know about this until just the other day. From what I understand you should be eligible, but give them a call and find out.

cal your agent.
i received the non-renewal letter from travelers but called my agent and she said they will renew but at a higher rate. she said she will shop around for me and send me a list of all the rates so that i can decide if i want to renew with them or go with someone else.

All State dropped a lot of people over the past year. We found an even lower rate with Liberty Mutual

We wil be dropped in July. Our agent called us and warned us a couple of weeks ago, they get the notices first. She said that at their agency alone they're dropping at least 10 policies a month.
She's given us a quote from Tri State Consumer, they're based on Long Island. The prices are very close.

We were dropped by Allstate 2 years ago. I know they had a huge market share on LI and were obviously trying to cover themselves bc of LI being such an area of concern as far as hurricanes. They said they were dropping people who didn't have their car insurance with them first.  Whatever! We hooked up with State Farm and have had no problems. It was comparably priced.

I don't think you'd be eligible for USAA. I can get insurance through them b/c my dad was active duty military, but my children will not be able to unless they enlist themselves or marry someone who is eligible.
Anyone can use USAA banking services, that might be where the confusion lies.
