WWYD? Question about teenagers in woods across from my house
DH and I work from home and my office faces the front of our house. Across the street there are houses being built with woods behind them.
A little while ago I saw 2 "gothy" looking kids (guy and girl) walk in between 2 of the houses and into the woods. I thought maybe they were coming home from school or something and wanted to take a short cut, even though it's officially trespassing, but not a HUGE deal.
Just now they come sauntering back out of the woods.
What would you do? Is there any legitimate reason for them to be there? I REALLY don't want to be the busybody on the block, but at the same time, there are a ton of little kids in this neighborhood and I just don't like the idea of ANYBODY hanging out in the woods. It could be that one of them are one of my neighbors kids though and I don't want to cause problems with any of my new neighbors.
Should I call the police if I see them again?

Nothing you can do about it now, but if you see them trespassing again then yea I would call. Even if they "aren't doing anything" they're still somewhere that they don't belong.

Unless they are being destructive or loud or when they come out they seem "under the influence" of something, I would leave it alone. If they aren't a nieghobors kids and other people on the block see this, I'm sure someone will call.

I would ask some of your other neighbors if they saw anything and what should we do about it.
I agree with this. Are the woods particularly dangerous? Are you worried about their safety, or them being destructive? I would talk to the neighbors and see what they think.
As a kid, I used to wander around- although nowhere dangerous. Kids like to have their own place to go and hang away from adults.

I would be concerned for safety as well as long as they are minors.
If they are being destructive, go with old faithful - catapulted water balloons.

As long as it's safe and they are not being destructive or noisy I would leave them alone. If they start hanging out there late at night and screaming or something then I would call the cops. Or if they are making noise during the day that you feel is too much noise then I would also call the cops.
They are probably just going there for some sexy time.

I agree.
YEARS aog, there were woods across the street from Malverne HS. One of my frriends dated someone who was 2 yrs younger and attended Malverne HS, she used to meet up with him and go into the woods to "do it"

Same thing in the Massapequa Preserve. They even built a structure to go into to get out of the rain. Most used it to hide paraphanelia (porn, weed).

Thanks everyone for all the responses!
The woods don't seem very dangerous although I've seen a bunch of deer go in there. I would be devastated if someone got hurt back there and I didn't say anything.
On the other side of the woods is the firehouse and then a main road which is why I initially thought they might have been cutting through.
I guess when the houses are finished it will be impossible to continue since they will officially be in someone's backyard...During working hours there are builders around.
I will talk to my neighbors and see what they think. I have become friendly with a few of them. It does creep me out to think that people would be in the woods but these were definitely teenagers after school, not adults which would have me petrified.
