Over the Counter or Prescribed is there a difference?

Re: Prenatal vitamins

I am taking a prescription only because it was given to me. I think it's fine to take an OTC as long as there is 800 mcg of folic acid.

Did Dr Hanauer give you the prescription? I have an appointment with her next week.

Re: Prenatal vitamins

My OB gave me a prescription when I told her I was going to start TTC. I have been on them for a year....

OTC is just as good as long as you have the Folic Acid like Hollie said...

Re: Prenatal vitamins

my OB gave me the name of OTC ones to get from GNC

she said she liked them better than the RX ones; but they are a little more $ because you cant use insurance.

Re: Prenatal vitamins

If you are TTC I would take a vitamin that has 800mg.....400mg is ok but 800mg is best...

I take the GNC Prental that has 800mg and is very good on the stomach....

Re: Prenatal vitamins

If I take the GNC Prenatal pills and the multi vitamin with the folic acid isn't that too much folic acid?

Re: Prenatal vitamins

I take generic ones from CVS. It's the same thing.Chat Icon Only thing I would suggest is that you get a folic acid supplement.

I know it would get you over 800mg a day - now whether that's too much or not I don't know.

I would do the prenatal from GNC and skip the multi vitamin. I know in my case the pre-nat I'm on is all I need to take.
