Bumpers safety?
I read in a recent Parenting magazine that bumpers are not considered safe due to potential risks. Is anyone planning on not using one? I feel like that is the only thing that you have in a crib other than a sheet, which may look strange?? What are your opinions on this?

Re: Bumpers safety?
People use breathable bumpers.
We have never taken our bumpers out and DS is 11 months old. We don't plan on it either.

Re: Bumpers safety?
Im not getting them. Aside from the safety issue, which has been on the news a lot lately, the bedding sets are so expensive. I would rather just get the sheet that goes with the theme I want!

Re: Bumpers safety?
i will be using the bumpers that come with my bedding set, and we plan on getting the anglecare monitor to ease my mind. there are risks with everything - from what i have read, as long as the bumpers are well-secured, the baby should be fine.
that being said, when the baby is able to move around the crib on his/her own, if we find that they are always close to the bumpers, i will consider removing them.

I used them with Ava, almost 4 years ago. I will not use them at all with this baby.

Re: Bumpers safety?
I used them but they were pretty thin, not like the thick ones that come with sets that I've seen.

Re: Bumpers safety?
We were just at BRU today looking at bedding sets, and the bumpers are sooo thick. Since the baby doesnt use the bumper or the comforter, im just going with a sheet. I have enough to worry about as it is!

Re: Bumpers safety?
I will use the ones that came with my crib set. As the baby gets a little older and is able to move around more in the crib and change positions I will rethink using them.
It seems like you can't win these days with anything...........everything is a danger to the baby!! I keep telling myself to just relax and take it all with a grain of salt. After all, our parents knew none of this and somehow they managed to keep us alive. For goodness sake, when I was a baby (back in 1975) my mom actually gave me honey on a pacifier ALL THE TIME to shut me up (god knows how I am not dead from Botulism) and she put us to sleep on our tummies with blankets tucked all around us (again, god knows how I am not dead from SIDS). But yet.........we survived. So I try not to freak myself out too much over all of these safety measure, I will do everything I can to ensure my baby's safety but I don't want to become a worry wart either. Chances are in our favor that our babies will be just fine and will grow up strong and healthy!!

Re: Bumpers safety?
We're planning on using the bumpers that came with our bedding until the little one starts rolling around. After that we're either going to remove them all together or switch to the breathable bumpers.
