Any Plus Size TTCers?
I'm overweight. It's always been a struggle for me.
Are any of you plus size? If so, what, if anything, are you doing differently about TTC? Are any of you concerned that + or - weight can make it harder to conceive?
I tried speaking to my gyno about this over the summer, and she kind of let me off the hook, and shrugged my weight as a minor to non issue. I was hoping she'd give me the stern Dr lecture to get my butt in gear!

Did you have any complications while TTC or PG with your DD due to weight?

No problems TTC, it was easier than this time, actually, lol. The only problem I had during pregnancy was in the last month or two my back got really bad, but I also had a pre-existing minor back problem. Oh and I had HUGE kankles, lol. I'm supposed to be between 145-175lbs and when I got PG with DD I was 210, which is what I'm at now. HTH!!!

I was about 200lbs when I got pg. I didn't have any trouble conceiving nor any problems in my pg. I did hear somewhere that just losing 10% of your weight increases your chances of getting pg.
I didn't gain much weight so I was able to buy clothes from lane bryant a size bigger than my size pre pg. I bought a few things at motherhood as well.

I'm overweight as well. I just had surgery last week to remove 2 cysts and clean up my endometriosis. My RE never brought up my weight before until I was in the recover room last week after surgery. My mom ratted me out and told the doctor that I was a stick when I was younger. I can agree to that, but I'm not talking about Nicole Richie thin. I was a size 18. Yesterday the doctor asked me what happened in regard to my weight. My weight is not preventing me from getting pregnant, but I know in the long run, its not healthy to be carrying the extra weight, especially when I do get pregnant. The doctor didn't give me an x-amount of weight to lose, but I weigh now over 200 lbs, around 280. I know that I have to lose some of the weight. Its not going to be easy. I've been struggling for a long time with weight issues. What I'm going to do is just cut out the junk food and eat in moderation. Eat more fruit and veggies. Oh man this is going to s u c k.

I have always struggled with my weight, and I believe my weight gain after getting married is the main contributor to WHY I'm not pregnant yet. In fact, I know it is. Over the course of the past year, I have lost about 30lbs and still need to lose another 40lbs. While many plus sized ladies go on to have healthy pregnancys, you are at a much higher risk of gestational diabietes and other complications. The first OBGYN I started with two years ago, as well as the one I currently see AND my RE have made it a point to tell me it's in my best interest and in the best interest of having a healthy pregnancy to lose as much weight as I can before I get pregnant.
I'm in the middle of an IVF cycle, and will continue following my weight watchers program until I know I am pregnant. Going through everything I have gone through in the past 20 months to get pregnant, I want to make as healthy of an environment as I can for my child.

I fully agree that being heavier makes pregnancy that much harder on your body. You really have to watch yourself and make sure you do not gain alot. I believe that being overweight can increase chances of GD and pre-eclampsia. The reason why it may affect your ability to get PG is that it is a risk factor for PCOS which affects ovulation. For the OP who said the Dr became interested after your Mom said you were thin before-weight gain can be a sign of PCOS which does have to be corrected. Other than that I think if you are in good overall health-you can have a very healthy pregnancy. I am overweight and have been pregnant multiple times very easily. Unfortunately I have a problem with my tubes-causing ectopics/losses.

I am considered obese according to this chart so I recently started a low carb diet. The way I see it, losing weight can't hurt. I will look better, feel better, and maybe get pg faster and have a healthier pregnancy.

I was going to post something like this a few days ago.
I am plus sized. When I got preggo with my DS I was really thin, wearing a size 4, and gained all my weight during my pregnancy and never really lost any of it. DS is 5 now. I wear a size 16/18.
So if and when I get preggo I will be plus sized. My gyno never gave me any problems about my weight. But I worry about it all the time. I eat healthier now since ttc. I lost some weight not nearly enough as I want or should but at least I'm not adding on more weight while we are waiting to conceive.

I was a size 9 when I was 16, then after high school I started gaining weight. I was a size 16, which was fine with me since the Gap had jeans up to that size. Now even though I'm the same weight, I still don't fit in my 16s. I was going to try to lose wieght, but if I get pregnant what's the point? I figure I'll try really hard after this next baby to get back to around 180lbs.

This is what I say all the time. All that hard work and I know I am going to gain most of it back during pregnancy. That's why I decided to just maintain my weight instead of concentrating on losing it all right now. I go up and down with my weight all year. I figure if I can keep it steady till we get preggo then that's good.
When the time comes and I have the next baby, I will start WW and really put my all into it.

yes. I've always had a problem with my weight.
I was on the right track for awhile--I had lost 56 lbs. on WW, but I've gained about 20 lbs. back. 
I'm hoping I can lose more before I actually become PG...

The reason for my weight gain is because I have issues with food. I have no problems ovulating, both of my ovaries are fine. The reason that I haven't gotten pregnant yet is because I had a chocolate cyst on my left ovary that leaked and caused scar tissue on my left tube. So I only have 1 working tube.

DH & I just started TTC again. Right now I am cutting back and have started excercising more. I have also started taking prenatal vitamins. DH & I are just leaving it in god's hands.

I am and I always found it funny that my doctor never mentioned my weight as a hinderance. I am roughly 80-100 pounds overweight.
Not for nothing but I know of several women who had healthy babies and pregnancies that are the same or bigger than me. I know it might be harder on our bodies but I am willing to sacrifice!
