 I am torn....
All of my life I just figured the time would come for me to be a SAHM. I physically cannot imagine myself working full time with a child. Maybe PT to contribute to the $. Even though I am working on my teaching degree, I feel like I want to have a baby now, before I am 30. And being that this is the 10th month that we are TTC, I don't want to put it off any longer. I just don't know what to do. I am sure there are options, I just really have to look into it. I saw a course at the local college for a medical transcription course for about $1000. Do you think this is worth looking into?

 Re: I am torn....
I don't know anything about the medical transcription course.
How far along are you from getting your teaching certificate? Have you considered working with Children with Special Needs. My nephew is Autistic and he has someone who works with him one on one. I know that you can pretty much make up your own hours and have as many students as you like. If this interest you, you should maybe look into some agencies.
I wouldn't take the course unless your heart is really set on it! Good Luck!
ETA: As the children get older, having a teaching certificate is the ideal job! YOu have all the holidays and summers off! Something to think about.

 Re: I am torn....
Just wanted to say stay positive. I dont have much advice. I WOULD LOVE to be a SAHM, but I dont think we could, and I cant put off having a baby due to that. It will be MY loss basically, not the childs, most dont remember the early years, and I will figure it out when the time comes.
SAH jobs are HARD to find, its usally only worth the money if offered through an employer who allows its employees to telecommute.
I do know that there are a lot of MEdical transcriptionists who work from home. Thing is the bigger companies I have seen on LI ( that pay enough to do it) want you to have at least 4 years experience , I guess because your home and not in a working envirnoment. SO...I would think maybe you could do it p/t from somewhere and move to at home f/t after getting experience?
  Anyway..LOTS OF LUCK!

 Re: I am torn....
I don't have too much advice but I will have to work after a baby is born, just the way it is for us. I know a few teachers who have had kids and they get so much maternity time, guaranty their jobs when they come back and they are off all summer with the kids, all breaks with the kids - so keep that in mind. It may be hard when the baby is an infant but down the road I think it will really REALLY pay off to stick with it.

 Re: I am torn....
Yeah you guys are right. I will just have to focus and do what I need to do. I can't put it off just because of what I want. We will work it out somehow.
  Thanks

 Re: I am torn....
also some schools do have day care - a teacher friend had this planned until she miscarried late in her pregnancy.
I think the benefits of being a teacher will def. pay off in the future with children since the schedules are ideal.

 Re: I am torn....
I think it will all come together. Is there a way you can maybe leave your job and go to school FT while working somewhere PT to bring in the money?

 Re: I am torn....
I am in a similar situation. I haven't officially started TTC, but I just started school to get my teaching degree too.
I have thought about putting off TTC until I am done with my degree and I just don't want to. If it means that I don't finish before I have a baby, so be it.
I don't think we will be able to afford for me to be a SAHM, so to bring in some money I plan on working or even subbing a few days a week once I have a baby.
Then I can finish up my courses and eventually be a teacher. It just may take me longer than my current classmates, but I'll get there! And so will you!
Its so worth it, dont give up!!!!

 Re: I am torn....
Can you afford to stay home 6 months to a year and then go back?

 Re: I am torn....
it is worth looking into, especially if you know that you won't be able to handle it. I couldn't handle working FT and managing an apt so I talked with DH about bumping down to PT and we are making it work!
Also, as a teacher, what about teaching night school or one of those after school places? My bset friend is a Spanish teacher who has been home with her kids for the last 2 years. She teaches Adult Ed at night at a local high school and I think makes $60 an hr and the class is a few hrs 2 nights a week for 6-8 weeks. Just a thought.
Also, private tutoring is great....parents are always looking for tutors for their kids!
