What my Ped said today

I took Sabrina for her 4 month visit today. I asked about the recent issue with baby shampoos, lotions, etc. because I am obviously concerned. She basically told me the following...

"There are a LOT of "studies" out there. For every one that says something is bad, there is one that says the opposite. If there was a REAL reason for concern, they would not say there is a "possibility of..." they would pull it IMMEDIATELY like they did with the children's medicines."

BTW...We've had similar discussions regarding the vaccinations and the baby bottles.

I know she is only one doctor and that others may or may not agree. I just thought that I would pass it along.

THanks for sharing that. I agree with your Dr. If anything being sold for use on infants/childrens that had a real potential for causing harm it would be pulled (as your post stated-like the children meds)

I still don't feel comfortable putting something in or on (one's skin is the largest organ of the human body) my DC's bodies that I cannot pronounce or do not know the origin of simply by reading the ingredient.

I only have my children because of the miracle of IVF. Considering some of the studies hypothesize a link to IF problems for both males and females, I just can't use them. IF issues are way too common among my biological relatives and don't want a potential issues to be even worse for them. For that reason and several others, I choose only certain products for my household.

That's what we feel comfortable with. It could take years until a conclusive "possible" link is found. That's years of their life we will not be able to reverse.

I just know that on more than one occassion the gov't has taken many years to finally admit that several substances are harmful to us... nicotine, asbestos...Chat Icon

Totally agree.

I don't think Dr's are informed/kept up to date in all areas (my own included).
I use my head. I trust no one.
If I don't know what it is, I now investigate the ingredient before I put it on DC's/my body. If I can buy shampoo that has close to zero chemicals in it, that is the one I am using.
