You know reading posts like this really clues you in to how many lame people there are in the world. People are so fluckin passive aggressive.
If they felt that way they should have said something...instead they will now not talk to someone over it when the people don't even know they did anything "wrong." In addition what would they have chipped in $5??

Ok that is seriously the MOST nit-picky thing I have ever heard - These people are not FRIENDS with them anymore b/c of that ??? I really hope there is more to that story -
I personally would have thrown some monry in for the tip, and it would have been appropriate if they did - but if they didn't........I wouldn't give it a second thought
Apparently there is a whole history here with this other couple...I think this was more of the final straw type of thing.

They should have at least offered to kick in some kind of money since they did sit at the table, ate some of the food and drank the water.
I think not speaking to them is a bit harsh on your neighbor's part. Maybe there's more to the story than just this incident.

If it were me, I wouldn't have let them tip. It would have been a nice gesture, but in my opinion, not necessary. To not speak to them because of it is a bit much. But if we were the other couple, we probably would have offered to leave the tip.

I wouldn't end a friendship over it, but I agree that person should have tossed a few dollars in for the tip.

If it was me who was this tag-along couple, I would offer tip money because I am sitting at the table and it's the right thing to do in my mind. But if someone else was the tag-along couple, I woud refuse their offer to leave a tip. However, I would not have thought twice if they never offered.

if i was in this situation, i would not be mad or not talk to the couple who didnt tip.
If they did not order anything, and the waitress did not bring them drinks, and the drinks were not on the bill, are they supposed to tip for water and bread?
I find the situation odd, maybe if i was this tagalong couple i would of thrown a couple of bucks in, but i dont think its necessary
