Any relocated from state to state?

Would you mind sharing how you did it: rented a Uhole/hired a moving company/put everthing is storage etc.?

And also, if you did hire movers how much it was.

TIA for all replies!Chat Icon

P.S. Edited for spelling because "recolated" is definitely not a wordChat Icon

Re: Any recolated from state to state?

I was single at the time. I did a uhaul and trailer for my car. That was for a small 1 bedroom apt.

Now, I would have to hire movers to go OOS. Unless I sell all our furniture.

Re: Any recolated from state to state?

We moved from NY to CA.

We used "Door-to-Door" movers. We didn't have any large furniture though. Basically, depending on how much space you need (for us it was 1) they will bring 1 or 2 or however many containers. If you're moving from NY, you have the option of having movers pack everything into the container or you can save money by loading it yourself at their site in Brooklyn. So you pay per container, then if you want the loading, and then for service and delivery. A container with loading was about $2500, without was somewhere around $2000. But the earlier you book, the better your price. You can get a free quote that is valid for 30 days, ours had expired but was about $2000 for loading and $1500 without.

To CA, transit was 8 business days, plus there were 2 prep days. So 10 business days total. You also get 15 days of free storage if you aren't ready for your stuff immediately. They were super easy to work with.

We moved into condos in a complex, and the container was put in a parking spot out in the lot. I used the company also to hire movers to unload the container and bring everything into our condo for us, making our move pretty simple! When you're all done, you just call and have them pick up the container.

Oh and also, you buy your own lock and put it on the container.

Good luck!

We also hired movers. They disassembled everything from our apt in NY and packed it up and then delivered it to FL and assembled everything again. Even though they were super shady and tried to overcharge us several times, having movers do everything was great. Just do your research and find the right movers... have them come and do an in home estimate also.

When we moved 8 years ago it was a 1bedroom to another one bedroom rental and it cost us about 3500k and we did it ourselves.

We moved last April from northern NJ to CT (a 1BR apt to a 2BR townhouse). We hired movers and I can't imagine if we didn't. It was about $1200. Definitely do your research - the moving business can be soooo shady!!!!

we moved x-country two times by ourselves with a UHaul. But we purged a lot both times we moved.

The quote we got the second time with movers was $4500 - we ended up doing it ourselves for under $3K

But remember, gas is much higher today than when we did it. and those UHauls don't get that great of gas milage - especially if you are going up hills/mountains.

Re: Any relocated from state to state?

We just relocated this past July from NY to AZ. We researched movers and UHauls, and they were about the same price. We decided to go the easy route and hired Hall Lane Movers (a division of United). They were BEYOND awesome and I would use them again in a heartbeat. They were used by two family members and gave them glowing recommendations. They came in, disassembled everything and met us in AZ with zero damages 1 week laterChat Icon

Is this a national company or do they only originate in NY?

When we got married and moved into our house, we moved everything ourselves. We went from Staten Island to New Jersey. We took as much as we could every trip.

Re: Any relocated from state to state?

I moved from NY to CA with a moving company. I don't remember the amount exactly, but I think it was a little under $2K for a one bedroom apartment's worth of stuff.

If you go with a company, do your research. My experience was awful.
